Beautiful minis!  They are really nicely detailed and rate right up there with the best on the market for sculpts, in my mind.

I sure hope one day to see some Lancers and Dragoon Guards... those will be sure buys for me.

could anyone please explain to me blind and dumb the difference between the carbineers and mounted police?
and the difference to regular cavalry? (apart from the spikes on the helmet)
and what is this strange hat one of them has?

You can peruse the differences between the various mounted corps here:

http://books.google.com/books?id=udNhFg-rKX8C&printsec=frontcover&dq=Zulu+War+-+Volunteers,+Irregulars+%26+Auxiliaries&cd=1#v=onepage&q=&f=false

The "strange hat" would probably be the undress pillbox hat, were it a good bit shorter.  See Plate B3 in the Osprey.

The Empress figure appears to be aspiring to some form of a fez rather than a pillbox, just as the helmeted figures seem to be taking the lead in fashion from Chaos Terminators with their excessive spikes.

The spikes can always be filed down.  Which is a heck'va lot easier than building them up if they are too short.

It happens the same... but I love this minis!!!  :-* :-*
You may forget that they are in africa and insert them in VSF armies (in Europe, or Mars/Venus - could also be colonial etc)

I presume you mean british army:

mounted police, armed policemen.

ignore the difference of the pith helmet, paint it the appropriate colour and you have home service cavalrymen

For other armies I am sure you can find some use of the spiked helmet

OK I know there is some difference on the uniform and helmet of the home service and colonial-Natal police. Don't kill me, it is not a sacrilege (?)

I agree. But you can still try US forces:
A very good example is here:

spiked helmets (I admit they more pickelhaubes -i.e. more Prussian) can be found in Norway,Portugal, Chile, Argentina and maybe some more!

Lovely work EM. My favourite of the auxillary units that fought alongside the red coats.

Paul has again crafted some lovely miniatures an in particular the sergeant is wonderful.

This will be a good brushwork challenge due to the black uniforms.

Thank you for the news,

Helen
Best wishes,

 lol Fantastic!

They are not actually kepis. The one illustrated is a peakless "pill box" hat, but officers often wore a similar version with a peak. Can't remember the proper names at the moment. They will come to mind in about five hours time when I'm fixing my car's exhaust  ::)

Lovely! The Zulu War is on my 'to do' list for the future, and I can see myself getting these. I really hope Empress do Indian Mutiny sometime in the future!!

I'll second that!!! Love Paul's work.
