Conan Miniatures
« on: July 30, 2006, 10:41:30 PM »
Hi all...

I'd like to open this forum with a topic dedicated to minis of Conan...

I start with my own Conan... the version sculpted by Games Workshop for the 3rd edition of Talisman. Sorry for the blurry pic.

He is never referred as "Conan", but he IS the Conan of John Buscema...

My friends, I'm sorry  to tell you, but Conan has blue eyes.  :P

That reminds me, I wanted to repaint my old Hero Quest "Barbarian" for weeks. He looks exactly like Schwarzenegger in the Conan movies.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

LOL....

Conan really has blue eyes !

I also collect all sort of Conan Minis cuz Iam a Conan admirer since my childhood. I like the one by Kev White and have it too. I hope I can post some pics soon. Unfortunately unpainted yet...

Besides I heard a rumous that Mongoose wants to publish a Conan Wargame. Is this true. Anybody heard about it ?

And....it surprises me that lots of people favour the Buscema Conan from the Comics or the Arnold Conan from the movies....Or even worse the super muscular Gene manipulated one ( Ralf Möller ) from the TV show....When you read the stories you will learn that he was tall, muscular and supple. I like the Barry Smith Conan.

Driscoles...

Although we are moving a little off-topic...

I must agree with you. The guy to gave shape to Conan was Frank Frazetta in his amazing illustration... I adore Barry Smith work (he is a genius) but his Conan is too Art Noveau for what Howard imagined... Buscema works were too much near to Frazetta although his work was pretty repetitive as time passed...

The new Conan series, drawed by Cary Nord and Tom Mandrake is much near to the original Howard universe than anything done before...

Oh, and to go back to topic, a (bad) pic of the Heroquest Conan, painted by Ron Shirtz

Ralf Möller is a insult to Conan. Arnold isn't bad, it could be worser (see Ralf Möller). And i'm glad there are both, Barry Smith and John Buscema Conan's. But also the newest Conan by Dark Horse is quite good. Each of them is another facet of the greatest fantasy myth

The new Conan series from Dark Horse is great. I think it comes closest to capturing the feel that REH wanted from the barbarian.

Just wait until I start doing a  Broadsword Adventures game.

Yes I am serious, HOWEVER, I don't have any kind of release date set yet. It might be some time before I get to it.

I am using the work on Gloire and some other projects to get a better feel for some heroic close combat action. I want to really capture the feel of the Conan action and that means making some changes to make it work.
