Vosper Motor Torpedo Boat & Sopwith Camel - WIP
« on: 24 January 2010, 07:07:11 PM »
I'm working on a little pulp project involving archeologists, evil Germans, British commandos, robots etc. The setting for all this action is going to be North Africa / the Mediterranean in the 1930s. I needed some vehicles for the heroes and came up with these:

It's a 1/72 Vosper Motor Torpedo Boat by Airfix. I think it'll do fine with 28mm figs (the captain is standing next to it for some scale). I left some of the smaller parts out as I think they won't stay there for long anyway, but I kept the 20mm twin cannon in the front as it passes well for a smaller calibre twin mg. Now all I've got to do with it is painting & basing(if needed).

The other one is a 1/48 Sopwith Camel for all the Artizan pilots I have painted.

The thing that surprised me most was that I had the time to build these both during this weekend. Getting them painted will probably take a month :)

Congratulations! You're one of the few people I've heard of who's actually put that beast of a boat kit together! I bought mine when it was originally released and found it one of the worst-fitting kits I'd seen.  I eventually just scrapped it after saving the crew figures and a few other parts.  The Airfix Air-Sea Rescue Boat and Schnellboot kits, even though they had their own quirks, were dreams to assemble in comparison.

Damn! I was in the Manchester branch of Modelzone the other day and they had that Sopwith Camel for 4 quid. Knew I should have picked one up.  >:(

That Camel is very nice looking. Should be a blast to paint too.

You're off to a great start.  Just don't anchor in front of an oncoming destroyer.

Certainly isn't, Bezzo. Artizan do Zilly and Dick Dastardly, too.
