I really like this and need one for India too! Great build.

Are u going to include the swivels guns?

If so, will they be above the stockade or behind a loop hole?

I personally think they would have to be above it. If they were behind a loop hole they would be too restricted.

Interestingly enough Washington's swivel guns at Fort Necessity were actually outside the fort! They had built a small earthen rampart or two and mounted them on that. I assume they brought them back inside when they fell back into the fort, but I have never seen any mention of them being used that I can recall.

Necessity's pallisade is about 8' high IIRC. No loopholes or firing step, but as you suggest there are a lot of gaps between the ill-fitting logs that permit fire. Some of them appear to be intentional. That is just based on the reconstruction which is in turn based on the archeological evidence, of course. Washington had a lot of trouble getting even that much built as the regulars with him refused to do any labor unless given the extra pay they were entitled to by regulations. The battlefield park's site http://www.nps.gov/archive/fone/fort.htm has an interesting article on it complete with some handy line drawings like this:

Looking great, I can' t wait to see it finished. I also looked at the final update on your harbour Which also looks superb. :)

A minor change I would make (and its very much a personal preference) is to drybrush the bare earth and the exposed timbers with a bone/off white colour to ada a bit of contrast and highlight them more. (as I said its not a criticism, just a preference for lighter earth and wood colours) :)

Looking good so far. I really hope you had the window open and were wearing a mask with all the superglue around as it gives of cyanide fumes.

cheers

Looking good, I like the gun platform and the  hinging of the gates. You now have me rethinking a palisade section I am planning, I was going to use my usual kebab skewers, but your twigs look so down good I might go with them. :)

Regards the drybriushing try it on the bare earth areas as well, it wil llift your bases and give them some definition. (again its a personal preference.) :)

Fantastic! I just trimmed my large hedge and now have a giant pile of boxwood to replace the oak saplings I left out through the winter so I should get cracking on copying you!

I don't think New France had it's own flag. They would just be flying the standard Bourbon rag, wouldn't they?

I've only ever seen that second one (the one with the three lillies on a white field).

Simply brilliant SI :-*

I am about to embark on a 15mm FIW fort for a mate and this is just the inspiration I need. I'll be using thin skewers though ;)

I really like the effect you've achieved with the twigs though and may try somehing similar for a small fort of my own.
