TAG Italians- potential use in VSF armies
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:08:26 PM »
Just found the following:

http://www.theassaultgroup.co.uk/pages/page.php?First-Italians-released-144

immediately an idea sprung. They look that they have a very good potential for a VSF papal/italian/catholic Army.
Yes, some in morions could be also helful but their "beret" is also useful.

I remember there was some older thread on VSF Italians. But these figures look very nice and I think they are a must.

What you think?

To be honest, I'd say they were about 300 years too old to be used. Perhaps in a more loopy VSF army, but that's not the sort I'm interested in. I prefer 'plausible' VSF, of the Wells and Verne type, not the 'take any historical soldier and give him a steam gun' type.
I told you so. You damned fools.

Yep, I have to agree.

I wouldn't but as the boundary between VSF/Steampunk/Pulp is not cast in stone - what do I know.  ;)

I can see where you are coming from with the Papal guards as in the ceremonial ones arond the Vatican. Perhpas a close body guard for a Papa delegation perhaps but only a small one.

Yeah, Papal guards would be quite interesting and give an opportunity for some different painting.

Would make some great pulp/vsf scenarios too.

In fact I do not like, also, the idea of taking any figure give them a steam gun and call it VSF, but look what we have here:

.- Papal guards in beret. Even today their uniform is more or less the same since Leonardo da Vinci's times.
.- they do still wear this kind of berets
.- they are still armed in cuirass, morion helmets and carry halberds
.- and still have secretly covered modern weapons in their umbrella holders (just in case of emergency)

some links to images:

So, a Papal VSF army could have some  as bodyguards etc.
I am sure that there is not easy to paint a whole army of them!
