A rough pairing for the Orcs, which could easily have given some of the other entries a run for their money IMO.

I love the samurai banners  :-*

A tough pairing indeed! I'm very impressed with the Samurai though, especially the care given to their banners and armor. It's okay to lose against such a nicely painted entry!

Thanks chaps.

Some of them are a bit old now but are still standing the test of time  :)

Samurai are rather like medieval heraldic types - colourful and photogenic. They always do well. (Not that I'm saying they aren't very nicely done, James, cos they are!  :))

But I feel the poor old orcses are getting a bit of a harsh pasting. They are jolly nice figures, and nicely painted as far as I can see.

I quite like the orcs myself but I suppose if there was any choice in who was paired with who it would make it less fair.

cheers

I agree - the orcs look great, just great.  But the samurai 'pop' more to my eyes.

Okay, I finally have to ask this, after wondering about it for years. About a million times I've read people on forums talking about figures "popping."

Can someone please explain just what the hell that means?  :)

I always assumed it was an older generation equivalent of bling! But I don't know for sure  :)

I always understood it as "popping out of the image", as in "it has that certain je ne sais quoi", or, for the young folks, "wow factor"...

I always understood it as "popping out of the image", as in "it has that certain je ne sais quoi", or, for the young folks, "wow factor"...

I always thought that "pop" was to do with cleverly contrasting colours and judicious, yet not gaudy highlighting that caused the eye to be drawn to explore the figure.

I have figures that are painted to an inferior technical level to others and yet they "pop" more as far as I am concerned due to the better chosen palette and sometimes highlighting style.

I would see many of Orctraders beautiful miniatures as being ones that "pop", usually due to the high contrast that he uses to highlight.

I could be wrong though, but that how I have defined miniature "pop" to date :)
