Limited release and I like it although at 180 Euro it is also a limited market - only 100 copies to be made.

Nice! Little out of my price range at the moment, though.  Only got a few Mithril figures myself but those I have are very well done.  They weren't easy to get over here in the colonies.

I wonder if they identify the different figures.  I recognize Gandalf and Bilbo, of course, and that's probably Thorin Oakenshield seated beside Gandalf but the others?

Difficult to tell, but if one's particularly fat, it's Bombur, Balin was described as particularly old or venerable or something, Fili and Kili are younger than the rest, and so may have been more helpful with the washing up? And there's some discussion about what everybody ate or drank - seed cake or scones or porter or coffee - so you might be able to tell that way...

Weird quoting myself! Well, seek and ye shall find.  I was right about Thorin, too.  :D

Thorin Oakenshield seated with map,
Gandalf seated and smoking pipe,
Balin standing,
Dwalin carrying plates,
Dori carrying plates,
Bilbo Baggins,
Fili seated with fiddle,
Kili standing with fiddle,
Nori seated with flute,
Ori standing with flute,
Bifur standing with tankard,
Bofur seated,
Bombur seated with food,
Oin seated with food,
Gloin taking food from table

Mithril Miniature are an old collectors obsession of mine. I will most likely get this set instead of buying nappies for a couple of months. The boys love their dad and would surely not mind crapping on newspaper for a while.

Price, whether you like the style, limited editions etc. aside I just cannot get over how much better it looks undercoated over the bare metal.

I do like it but far too pricey for me :'(

Those really do look rather wonderful. Great looking models.
Of absolutely no use whatsoever, but I feel strangely tempted...  ::)

And they've got in ahead of GW who will presumably have the miniatures franchise for the Del Toro Hobbit films coming out next year and in 2012.  ;)

What a beautiful vignette..
the chairs alone...

I'd probably get rich if I ever sell my collection

Mithril was doing LotR and tH miniatures for years before GW got the franchise. I started collecting in the mid 80ies.

Fantastic! I love the Mithril range, especially the Dwarves, but this is way out of my budget  :'(

I'm hoping one of the LAFers buys a set and paints it for us to drool over  :)

I don't know much about Mithril and don't own any of their figures.  Am I missing something?

I hear that they come "primed."  Does this mean that they are (properly) cleaned up prior to the priming?

I hear that they NEVER re-release limited editions and that, unlike some other  ::) figure companies, a limited edition is exactly that and, therefore, has great "investment" potential. Is this true?

I hear that their figures "hold their price" more than others.

With regard to this actual vignette, well as others have said - the price.  And I'm just not "sure" about the figures themselves and the "floor" seems less convincing than most basework I see around here.  But the figures might be paintable.  ???

On a related note the Prince August Factory where the make the Mithril stuff is based in a teeny weeny one horse town about an hour from where I live (a rural part of Cork, in Ireland).

I called in there a couple of times as a kid in the 80s and it was pretty decrepit, but it was still a kick for me at that age.

On a whim I called in there as I drove past on my birthday a few years ago and I was pleased to see that even though it is still pretty small, they had renovated it quite a bit, in an effort to grab some of the Ring of Kerry tourist trade that passes by, playing up the "only toy soldier factory in Ireland" angle.  They tend to sell a lot of "cast your own Chess set" type things to tourists I think

I have always found the staff there to be very pleasant and helpful, but not obtrusive and they have always thrown in a few extra bits and pieces every time that I have bought things there since.  They also let me have wander around their stock rooms with a basket alone.  Maybe not the wisest business decision in some regards, as I could feasibly have half-inched a quantity of stuff (which I obviously didnt) but it was nice to be treated so trustingly.

Funnily enough, I dont really tend to by any of the stuff that they actually manufactur there.  I dont collect historical and I own very little Fantasy so mostly I tend to get paints and some of the large stock of Warzone figures that they bought up about a decade ago that they still have a load of.

As a result, I cant comment on your queries Orctrader, sorry.

Anyway, I recommend allocating an hour or two for a visit to the Factory shop if any of you are ever in the area.

Back on topic, the diorama looks like a fun project.  I hope that some LAFers give it a go and put up photos.
