Mexican soldiers for late 1860s forward?
« on: 13 March 2010, 05:38:33 AM »
Hello all,

I am a bit new to the whole Wild/Old West hobby, though I have loved it from afar for some time  :D

My wife and I are currently gearing up for our own setting. We are not going purely historical and, like many others, are creating our own fictional township and surrounding area. We are intentionally placing our setting close to Mexico and I am looking for figures for Mexican soldiers that would be appropriate for the period of the late 1860s on.

One friend suggested the Foundry Mexican soldiers from their Maximillian Adventure range.

Foundrys Maximillian Adventure range, is the only ones I know of that work for what you are going for.

You could also use Foundry ACW for some units but uniforms painted to look like Mexican uniforms and some Mexican armies of the 1860's were supplied with Union uniforms after the ACW had ended. The Perries plastic ACW are also good for this purpose both for Cavalry and Infantry and look even better with a few minor conversions.

Yes I would agree, you may also find some Franco Prussian war figures suitable as French zuaves to support the FFL
