Don't tread on me!(Americans in the AWI period)
« on: 14 March 2010, 12:38:15 PM »
This is my American army I've started for British Grenadier rules set.
It's based on Greene's forces at Guilford Courthouse.
The day was described as cold and wet.I decided to reflect this using a somewhat damp wet look to the bases.
This battle is great to collect for both British and American as it offers a wide range of unit types to field.Eventually I'll collect the British as well.
I've been working on this army for quite awhile, but I'm pretty new to the forum so I'm posting now.
I hope some of you enjoy the period and how I've interpreted it.

First up is my 1st Virgina militia. They are under severe pressure from the British and some are remembering they left the door open at home!

This is my 2nd Virgina Militia who are putting up stiffer fight and are more determined to hold their ground.(perhaps a minute longer!

This is Finley's battery where Finley decided to dress up to make a good impression on the British, while his men are far more practical!

These are the Virgina Rifles. These riflemen are my favorite models of the entire collection.

This is a meeting house I built for some terrain with ammunition being hauled up to the fighting men.

Some casualty markers

American colonial church I made.

This is a 4 wheeled ammo cart being moved along down the road past some field workers somewhere in North Carolina 1781.

This is General Greene commander of the army. After some thought I decided General Greene would have made some excellent use of scouts as this really helped him to stay a step ahead of the British. This gave me an idea to use the mounted riflemen from Perry and General Greene together as if they were advising him as to the location of various British forces. It also gave me the excuse I needed to include these wonderful mini's from Perry that normally are difficult to
find a place for!

More updates to follow and additional pictures can be seen on my blog if your interested.  :)
All models were sculpted by the Perry's Foundry range and the Perry's personal range.

Absolutely beautiful.  I really like how you incorporated some of the casualty figures into the units.
I have a cunning plan... as cunning as a fox who's just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford University.

Actually it's intended to be a wheat field, however if wish to see it as a cotton field then that's fine too. :)

Cheers

And, better still, the guy running away in the first unit.  Great brush work too.
Back from the dead, almost.

Hehehehe.

I think you mean Virgin(I)a.

Bloody nice paintjobs, the variation of colours is great. I often struggle here for some reason. Very nice bases too. I really like the flag.

Lovely.  Could you tell us some more about the ploughed field?  It is very effective.

Top shelf work here!

My favourites would have to be the skirmishing rifles with the rocks on their bases and the church.

Gorgeous paintjobs.  Nice use of sporadic color to liven up the usually "drab" nature of skirmishers clothing from this period.
This is my boomstick!

Just about everything you see on the pics is hand made and/or hand painted except..........the fields! ::)I wish I could remember were I picked up the ploughed field, but I'm sure a train store will carry some. :)
