Painting a F&IW redcoat
« on: 22 March 2010, 12:54:20 AM »
I expect to have a fair few to paint so I kept a record of the progression of work I did for my Round 4 LPL entry, which I have now added to my blog.

http://silent-invasion.blogspot.com/2010/03/woodlander-prepping-painting-redcoat.html

I should add that my entry was a resounding loser ........ so bear that in mind and also that I am not claiming my technique or result to be anything special.  ;)

Comments and criticisms are always welcome.   :)

EDIT - Just to clarify, I'm not seeking LPL related comment as that belongs in a LPL thread - but C&C related to the painting of redcoats is most welcome.  :)

Excellent stuff, lovely shade of red you've chosen too.

If its of any use to yourself or anyone else here doing SYW/F&IW stuff there's some cracking threads on the totalwarcenter forums where some history buffs are making Empire Total War more accurate through mods - there's some wonderful collections of pictures which are good reference.

Generic 18th century accuracy thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=189421

Hope this is helpful.

I like, very nice red and vibrant yellow.  :)
What paints do you use?

Very nice, especially the yellow!

I do use flat red, but I put mine over a base of burnt cadmium red followed by cavalry brown. It looks like you acheived very similar results by swapping the wash for the undercoats. I usually reserve the scarlet for officers, but it looks very good on your model.
