as already said above

stripes would be retro traditional, but interesting
if You use any brownish or yellowish colours, nothing with greenish shades, all warm colours (so no Khaki)
blue and blueish black also goes

indigo, purple and green would be rather expensive dyes (for arab tribesmen), so only for characters or in small amounts (but could go as a trademark or unit colour)
looking forward to see Your "alternative arab bandits"

I did the robes in their base color, then inkwashed them, then went back and did a quick highlight and I think they work well enough. 

Not a terrific photo, but it does show some different options.

I'm not sure how geographically specific you want to be but if you're painting Tuaregs - ie indigo - then you should really be keeping those minis to northwest Africa. Tuaregs are not Arabs!
