Recently have had a fascination with making terrain that gives players various levels to play on, so making some scaffolding seemed like a good idea. The other thing I really liked about doing this piece is that I think it can easily fit in a wide variety of settings. The miniatures pictured below are for scale… and for my own personal amusement.

I checked out some pics of actual wooden scaffolding on the interweb, but ultimately my goal was just to make something that looked somewhat close but was still a playable piece of terrain. We play a LOT of games, so playability is always very important to us.

I used natural bass and balsa wood, glued together, and pinned at some key points. The wood was stained prior to being put together, and lightly dry-brushed afterwards. Overall, I’m pretty happy with this one, but there are several things I’ll do differently on the next one… if I ever get around to it.

When I’m making a piece for the first time, I really don’t know how it’s going to turn out. The picture below shows some of my preliminary measurements, planning and sketches.

THANKS!
