Hi all,
A few photos of the start of a new project for me, my KuK cavalry regiment the 12th Dragoons .  Keeping with my polish theme these were recruited in Krakow these were the only Polish dragoon regiment the other being uhlans. They were bought at the scarab games day and are converted from the GWM french dragoon packs. They are not perfect for A-H dragoons but with the minor mods they match up pretty well. I'm hoping to do some head swaps in the next batch to get some in Feldmutze which would have been more common by 1915. Not much effort to subdue the uniform with only the helmet covered and other 'brightwork' painted in pike grey.  All questions and comments welcome.

cheers
Andy

Nice bases too. Do you mind saying how you made them?

Interesting conversion

If your looking for heads in Feldmütze you can take a look at Brigade Games in the US;

P.S.: What KuK stand for exactly?

Thanks for the kind words guys  :)  The bases are basically polyfilla with some model stones/gravel stuck in on some places, this is then painted a base colour of earth brown (sometimes I lighter sandier colour) then washed with GW devlan mud wash, then dry brushed with foundry buff, finally some tufts added for effect.  Hope this helps.

As former user said it means Imperial and Royal highlighting the dual nature of the monarchy - Emperor of Austria  and King of Hungary (and a few other places as well ;)).

Thanks for the suggestion Calimaro, unfortunately they are the wrong type of feldmtuze the AH one generally had a peak (though not for cavalry) and was much more similar in shape to a british sidecap.  I'm hoping to use some scarab miniatures heads, i'll post some photos to show how they turn out.

cheers
Andy

the SCW Gorillo heads might work quite nicely thanks, you dont happen to know how well the empress figures compare size wise to GWM do you?  I've got a couple of other avenues to follow up as well.

The biggest issue with the glengarrys is the jonty angle they wear them at  ;) A-H feldmutze was worn squarely on the head.

thanks again to both of you for your suggestions
cheers

I was wondering about the Gorillo for the GWM Belgians too as the side hat one figure in the command pack wears (which is a great pack btw) looks too much like a Britsh army forage cap/side hat - for that matter the French Dragoon officer in GWM range also look a bit too British for me - did Dragoon officers even wear side hats for that matter?

French ones? According to a French book of uniform plates I have they wore forage caps similar to the British field service cap.
