I was thinking the other day that a really good Weird War II project would be an early U.S. atempt to create airborn assult troops.

While looking for a suitable chopper, like an early Sikorsky, I came across this cool contraption:

Wouldn't it look impressive with Artizan's Nacht Jagers? I know the machine was put in production about 10 years later than the era the Nich Jagers are suitable for but it looks archaic enough to fit the bill anyway, IMO.

Wonderful. Certainly does have that "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" feel to it. I suggest they use it to try and rescue Oswald Mosley from the Tower of London, for a cool British variation on the Mussolini snatch theme.

A great, great idea! With Beefeaters and Homeguard and perhaps Blake and Mortimer as defenders.
Was Moseley interned during the war?

If my memory is correct I seem to recall that the FA233 was scheduled to take part in the raid on Gran Sasso to free Mussolini. Unfortunately the aircraft broke down on the day and was unable to take part in the operation. Thus the first operational military transport helicopter (it could carry 12 passengers or an underslung load) remained in relative obscurity.

Ironically an FA233 captured at the end of the war and operated by the RAF was the first helicopter to cross the channel.
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

Mosley was initially arrested and locked up in prison, as was his wife. I think later on they were merely kept under house arrest.

But a 'Weird War' Mosley, no doubt a powerful Nyarlathotep-worshipping sorceror, would surely have been entombed in a concrete and steel bunker under the Tower of London.

How about the former Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor - a known Nazi sympathiser, or the rescue of Rudolph Hess (although in a fictional wierd war context maybe he escaped to warn Britain of the Nazi's fiendish experiments?)

Edward spent most of the war in the Bahamas, a wonderfully James Bond kind of setting for such a caper. Maybe the helicopter contraption could be launched from some kind of special U-Boat.

I'm almost certain that in addition to being a Nazi, the Duke of Windsor was also a Deep One hybrid. In fact I think the entire Royal Family are.

Not the Queen Mum though, surely? She was the implaccable enemy of Edward and Mrs. Simpson. She hated Wallis Simpson with a passion. She can't have been a Deep One.

I think Queen Elizabeth as SOE agent, parachuted into the Bahamas to stop the Nazi plot would be cool. An underwater James Bond scuba fight with Wallis, perhaps? Wallis wouldn't need any scuba gear, obviously, as she must have had the 'taint.'

Sorry. This is getting awfully silly now, isn't it?

EYES ONLY - TOP SECRET

From: OSS/MI-6

RE: Operation SHORTS Agents

Personnel have been chosen for the operation to secure the D.o.W. from possible retrieval by Axis agents. CO will be Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (pending training by public double)...

Yes! I just won this baby (Focke Achgelis) on Ebay! I am one step further on my 'Free Mosley!" project.

I also found out that Eureka makes Grenadier Guardsmen with Lee-Enfields. Woo!

I hate to disappoint you, but (the non-weird war) QE's token military service was as a driver in the ATS (Auxiliary Territorial Service). She looked good posing for the cameras but couldn't even change the tyre on a staff car, let alone drive a 3-ton truck - so says my mum, who was in the ATS, could change a tyre and drove just about every type of wheeled military vehicle in British service during and after the War!

BTW - I have one of these helos too. It is waiting next to the pile of unpainted lead for me to be inspired to get back into painting some Weird War stuff (after I finish my current VSF Prussian invasion project)!!!
