Clever buildings
« on: 27 April 2010, 03:14:22 PM »
I know paper buildings may not be for everyone, but I’ve been very impressed with Clever Models buildings. http://clevermodels.squarespace.com/   I really hope they make some simplified designs that are scaled specifically for 28mm in the future.

In the meantime, I just wanted to show a quick example of how easy it is to scale their O Scale designs for tabletop gaming.

Typically it's the height of O scale that throws it off for 28mm, but with Clever Models paper buildings this is easily corrected by trimming about 3/8" to 1/2" off the bottom. This even drops the windows to a nice height. This trick won’t work for all their stuff but it should cover most of their simpler designs.

HAVE FUN!

Just to let you know. i am working on game specific models and some preyty wild props and textures just for gamers.

All of our texture collection and many buildings are now available for download at our web site
www.clevermodels.net

S scale is 75% smaller than O and might work for lots of game applications.

Nice designs Thom.  I've heard of S scale.  Is that the scale that's kinda rare and hard to find?

S is basically the scale/gauge/whatever between HO (1/87) and O (1/48-1/43).  It's 1/64 and is probably the closest to being 'right' for use with 28mm minis.  And, yes, it's not the easiest to find.  Should have seen the trouble I had finding just some rail, without ties (sleepers), to use (eventually  ::) ) with my Company B armoured train!

Actually, I think 28 mm IS 1/64 - but scale creep/heroic has made 28 mm minis seem just a little bigger than 1/64 (cars in 1/64 seem too small, anyway)

I always thought that 28mm was 1/56 scale....
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

You may be right - and 1/64 may be 25 mm  :)

I think that scales are so blurred now by figure sizes, that the best system is "Does it look right?"

Sure - I use 1/43 and 1/48 cars for modern settings  lol

Amen, brother! Standards are too sketchy to apply a true "scale" to gaming miniatures. "Does it look right?"  is the best system.
