The 'Clever Duck' a. Pulp Junk ,
« on: September 14, 2020, 03:37:31 PM »
A little while back Lon asked if I'd make him a Junk .In the same way I do the daft 'tales from the tin shed'.
Which  was fun because I don't normally get asked to make anything from recycling.
Whilst its curing/drying ready to be sent to the other side of the globe. Lon said he didn't mind if I added a few pics on here .So here's a few .

I can not wait to have this on my waterfront! :-* :-* Amazing what a couple of pictures, some card, glue, paint, and pure  talent can produce! Thanks Mark.

Steady on there  lol
It was fun Idea . Build a Junk thats got minimal detail, plenty of room for figures. But still looks like a junk from the 1930's and a motorized one.

I think the next build on the list thats going be as much fun to do. Is the one for Dag's (Mexicans on mopeds.)

Very nice :-*
For some reason, the way you did the windows makes me think the interior is much more comfortable than we would presume.

That is one great looking Junk!

I'm glad Lon and you chaps like it.
Whilst I've still got some cardboard around I'm going to sneak in a little time on my Pulp/fantasy cardboard castle. As it's bugging the living daylights out of me.

Ace job! The window painting is fantastic.

Always with the windows  ,don't matter what's I build'z.  It's always with the windows lol

Joking aside. It's a formulaic approach I've been tweaking down to the bare minimum over the last couple of builds.

Originally it was a lot of messing around blending colours fading it black and a harmonious splash of purple ink.
Now its down to four colours(if you include black & white) and no blending.
Paint the whole window black .Apply an 'L' shape in one corner in a pale green then add a couple of small spikes of green along the base line of the 'L'.
A 50/50 mix of white and pale green. In a smaller 'L" over the pale green 'L' . A wash  of a dark pink( magenta ) over the whole window .Then add a couple of white dots. Then three -four diagonal while dashes across the whole thing.
Job done or at least until I get bored of this formula.
But for now the wash of pink over the top seems to imply blending quite nicely. Plus there's much less chance of getting paint in the wrong place. So the windows can be pretty much the last thing to get painted.

Simple and (allegedly) easy!  :D

What's the seemingly-ribbed stuff you used for the sail, mark?

Ah that would be seemingly - ribbed kitchen roll & Mod podge. Rather than toilet paper.
The texture just seemed right for the sail .Had the ship been undersail then it would have been 180gsm cartridge paper with card staves & Mod podge. As the Kitchen roll would have still looked like kitchen roll.
The same way cocktail sticks always look like cocktail sticks unless your sneaky. Like with the old goto Fokker tri motor & submarine (thet get dragged out for virtually everything  lol ) But it does show window with purple ink ;)
