First Game & First Questions for Uncle Mike
« on: April 28, 2010, 04:02:27 PM »
Thanks to UM's generosity at Trumpeters Salute this past March I have the opportunity to enjoy this very cool skirmish game. Our first venture into Strange Aeons was huge fun. Clearly Mike knew exactly what he was doing when he gave our little group a copy of his game.
One aspect that initially threw us -but then had us scheming mirthfully- was the chess-like turn structure.

So the question: regarding 'Alert'. We were unclear about how a model gets back to an alert state once it has been nominated in a turn.

This came up when a trio (Character & two agents who had been nominating as a group) were set-upon by a Maniac. All three survived and passed resolve checks, but the Character was locked in a melee w/ the Maniac. The Character was then nominated & died trying to get out of the melee. The two Agents fail resolve checks & both run away (lucky!) The Maniac is nominated next & pursues.
The question came up whether or not the Agents would have been able to take Alert shots (the player was dying to lay the Bolo on the Maniac! lol). What's your position on this bit of mayhem?

Thanks in advance,
Thomas in Vancouver

Hey Mr.Peabody,

Glad to see yous guys having fun.

If the Agents were not nominated in the last turn they would be considered 'Alert' and be able to get off a shot each at the Maniac.

Practice by bringing all your cool toys to Vancouver more often!

Actually, & on a serious note, I would love to know more about how Mike makes the nice game boards. The cool skin on the outside, brass corner details, handles, dice rolling areas... A tutorial, some WIP shots or even some hints to the finishing materials used would be most welcome!

I may in the future do an article on building an 'official' table...but until then I would check around this forum, lots of great tables and scenery and...well, pretty much anything you could imagine really!

Not so much concerned about the 'contents' of the board; inspiration we got.
Rather it's your cool way of building them into a box & the finishing (steamer trunk meets Roadie case? :-*) of the outside.

If and when the time comes for your 'official table' article please mention those nifty details.
