German Uniforms during Market Garden

Hi,

First post here:)

I'm putting together a force of German troops for the Arnhem fighting during Operation Market Garden. I'm wondering which uniform colours and cam patterns are appropriate for troops in this region at this time (sept 1944).

For my regular army infantry I'm planning on using late field grey and mixing splinter pattern through them randomly on helmets, trousers or tunics.

For the unit that I understand is not allowed to be mentioned here, Bittrich's II Panzer Corp, I was going to use an Autumn Oakleaf pattern on helmets and tunics, with field grey trousers. I will be painting tanks and halftracks in ochre with red brown and dark green cam.

For my fallschirmjager, I'm going to use splinter pattern.

Are these uniform colours and cams the correct ones to use? Are there any other cam patterns I can use on any of these units?

I think for autumn 44 You can use whatever was available (and had been issued before) at that time.
Not that there would have been a dress code controller around  that late in the war

September is still summer. So perhaps Autumn might not have been worn / issued yet. Not sure if the units in ? would have been wearing the 2-piece brown drill uniform or still have the older cammo smock. Militaria magazine or some other specialist publication might have a specific article based on period photos.

Also, another question. Would pea dot have been worn by regular infantry or fallschirmjager? If I'm going to be using splinter on one of the units, it would be nice for the variety to use something else for the other.

Right now my understanding is that it was only those that shall not be named who wore the fancier camouflage patterns. Is that the case?

from what I recall they simply had more choice
and the pea dot was theirs too

but i wouldn't take it too literally
everyone would wear whatever was available, even freshly drafted units

sorry. I'm late back in on this. My understanding is that "pea dot" was indeed restricted to the Unmentionables. Heer summer weight combat uniforms for 44 would have been unpatterned green drill. Shade would be sort of a bleached out green-gray. Fatigues might be made from splinter for Heer troops, but probably only in the more elite units and these would be specially tailored for NCO's and officers.

Or show us photos of your lovingly painted figures and vehicles with these symbols in view... MS Paint does have its uses.

For future reference...

I've now seen a few photos from various books (Johnny Frost's being one of them) and it seems that 9 & 10 panzer div troops were largely dressed in Pea Dot. I'm still going to throw in some spring oakleaf and just a little bit of autumn oakleaf for variety though, and of course the standard grey pants.

Fallshcirmjager will be in splittermuster and grey, again varying it up a bit and my regular infantry will be painted in field grey with an occasional bit of splittermuster thrown in to add a bit of colour.

Could anyone tell me if the armoured vehicles were painted in any particular way, or was it the semi late standard of just ochre (dunkelgelb) with redish brown and dark green cam over it randomly (as applied by the individual vehicle crews)?
