Front Steps of the New Commerce Field Museum
« on: May 03, 2010, 02:40:13 PM »
If you have been following the Rattrap Blog, Facebook, or even the forums, you know that I have started posting about Historicon preparations. Well, nothing of significance to report on the Dice Dogs Contemptible Little Armies project. I got the basing material down on all the figures and got them primed. Hopefully, that means I should start painting this week and will have something to show for next Monday.

However, I did work on something for my OTHER Historicon game. Here's a shot of a Deep One Hybrid on the start of the front steps of the New Commerce Field Museum.

Where did you get those cool columns? It looks like a really impressive building so far!

Ahhh.. the columns. Go to your local craft store, find their baking/wedding section, grab as many packs of columns as you need. They use this type on wedding cakes.

What a great idea! Duh, talk about the obvious being so well hidden. I have been working on a Roman/Atlantian Temple idea with wooden dowels for the pillars and here are pre made pillars in the right style-Thanks!

Sorry the shot is not closer, but you can see the pillars on the one piece here.

They look good even when cut, filled with spackle (wood filler) and used as busted columns.

Ah yes - the ubiquitous cake decorating colums - great things those! The nice thing is they are usually available in several different sizes. I like the way you've done the stairs and statuary base. Once painted it will be hard to tell it from the real thing. :)

That looks great, Rich. Is it just the facade, or is there going to be a museum interior eventually too?

Must get back to my own pulp urban buildings... two just doesn't cut it as a convincing city!

Ah, bugger. The shop I tried in the town over didn't have any decent ones, though for some reason I forgot about the big craft and fabric supermarket they have.

So I guess I should thank you for reminding me again!

Looks like a great start. I am after this type of building front as well so I will be watching this thread for ideas.
Keep up the good work.
