After a staff meeting in the Danish VSF Department we've established that the inners of the Earth need to be explored.

The Indian Unobtainium supplies are fast running low and with the ever increasing arms race on the surface of the planet going in to the ground seems the right thing.

The German commander Udo Übervollgas has until recently been waging an effective campaign against the opprionist and Imperial British forces.



Oh well so here we are. We've been running VSF in Denmark for more than a year now and things are really looking swell.

I had imagined that we would be doing something with Martians or perhaps Atlantis this year, but as with all hobby you have to go with what you feel. And right now the prospect of doing underground scenery, morlocks, bugs, fungi, dinosaurs, unobtainium hoards, drills, excavators and everything else related to going into the Earth seems quite shiny!

Is there an actual point to this thread, then? I hear you ask. Well no. Not as such. I would very much like to see any linkage that anyone of you may be aware of regarding expeditions into the Earth (miniature related of course.. not some hobo smuckerish real life article).

So got any links?!

Yes! You are quite right.

I think I'll do a set of tiles like I did my dungeon tiles in cork. BUT. For the large caves and other things like that I'll probably do plenty of stalagmites.

I think this could work:

1) Take a lump of silver foil and sqash it into the shape you want.
2) Ready a soup of paper mache
3) Cover the "stalagmites" in papermache
4) Paint them with paint mixed with sand.

I recently did these for Nuclear Renaissance:



And I think a similar "area" approach to stalagmites would be suitable. Just bigger!

Not quite sure how to do stalagtites though. Seem to be one of those pesky 3d issues you always have in miniature games.

There was a link to a 1930s story from some Californian newspaper in the Pulp forum (I'm sorry I lost the direct link in a computer failure) where lizard-men living in tunnels were supposed to have hidden treasure under... LA?

And in the Atlantis Campaign, it's hypothesised that the insect-people that have been recently discovered live inside the Earth somewhere.

This is good. We should use this thread as a brainstorm bank. Post whatever you come up with here and I'll do the same. I'm stalagmites first. Stalagtites can't be done.

Yeah, I can think of a couple of ways to do stalagtites but they'd get in the way of game play so they aren't going to be used. I was thinking of putting some with the stalagmite formations though. The pillars where the stalagmite and stalagtite have met and fused together. That should imply that they're there. Might just look silly with a flat topped pillar though.
