Back in March a few of us got together for the traditional Sunday morning colonial bring and battle. For the last few years the Hotlead crew has been spicing up the battle with a few VSF twists.  The battle ranged over four tables with rebel Ottomans, Russians and French forces going head to head with the British and their Prussian and Dutch allies. What were they fighting over? The Suez Canal , or something like that.  ;) Whatever it was, it dosn't matter. We were having a load of fun. Sterling Moose lead his Russians to a clear victory on one side of the table and my Dutch finally make their LAF premiere.

Bloody 'ell that's a big game. Much eye candy there. I'm surprised Sterling's cossacks didnt make an appearance.

Lovely stuff!  :)

They were there somewhere in the mix, crushing the British flank

Excellent!

Yes, and they rolled their dice incredibly well! Which was bad because they were usually shooting at me.  ;) They were also responsible for some awesome looking terrain and two of the walkers on the table, which they put together out of dollar store robots with their dad. Awesome kids!

Looks like it was a very fun game. What rules did you use for this kind of big VSF encounter?

Fellow LAFer Ricco has done up some one or two page VSF rules which were used. I could only watch for a few minutes and then it was off to bed, having been up at work all night otherwise I'm sure my Bengal lancers would have given those clockwork riding Cossacks a good cuff on the ears! :)

It's Ricco's red coat infantry following the black steam tank and green driller in a couple of the pics.

Thanks Chairface for  posting these, (as I'm having problems with Photobucket) your Veusian parrotmen (aka Kroot) look quite spectacular!

Rico's rules are fun and fast paced. Just enough for a good game, but simple enough to keep such a big game from bogging down.

As for the Parrotmen auxilliaries, I am quite pleased with how they turned out. I'm going to start a thread for my Dutch at some point.

Great battle, isn't there anything else you could have squeezed in? I can't recall seeing a Luxembourg contingent in there, so you lose marks for that  lol

Love the adobes. I'm still struggling to get good results with my efforts. Good to see yours are very similar to the ones I'm aiming for in Mexico/California and will suit both theatres  :D

That's pretty amazing, the scale, the scope, the implausibility... I don't mind if there were no Luxembourgians, it's good to see Ottomans and Dutch getting an airing because they're certainly among the lesser-spotted armies. In fact, I've seen more Venusian Parrotmen than Dutch, and the Dutch were invented ages before Parrotmen.

Anyway, top-hole 19th century impossible adventurousness! Good on y'all!

The scale and scope is very much determined by who shows up with what troops.

We try and have a very general scenario and then fit people into whichever side depending on what army they've brought a contingent for.

So it gets wierd. I don't think I saw any silly hats this year though.

Perhaps someday I'll convince someone to build VSF Austrians. Hmmm... maybe I should...!

So anyone know where one can find mid to late 19th century Austrian figures?  :D

I suppose I could just use fellows in pith helmets but that wouldn't be any fun would it? What's the point of Austrians without flashy hussar and uhlan regiments?  ;)
