Blue Moon miniatures
« on: May 25, 2010, 08:07:48 PM »
Anybody like or use these miniatures, available from Old Glory?

http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=535

They look not too shabby.

While we're on it... how about these guys?

http://www.oldgloryminiatures.com/products.asp?cat=432

The gothic horror/vampire wars set. It lists them as 25mm. Are they really 25mm or the newer 28mm?

Thanks all!

I am rather fond of Blue Moon and I have quite a few miniatures from their catalog. Some people consider them a little too tall but to me it is hardly noticable.

The vampires you are looking at are West Wind which are marketed (and cast?) in the US by Old Glory. Malamute can tell you all you need to know about them.

I’ve painted and sold two sets of "I Just Don’t Feel My Age – A Mummy Scenario" and they are good figures indeed. They are virtually "flash free" and the odds mould lines are easily filled down. They have big, round integral bases though (roughly 7/8" in diameter). But these are not as thick as the picture would suggest. I bought Gangsters, 18th Century Civilians and duellists as well as some Old West figures from Blue Moon and they were all good miniatures.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

All of the above will be compatible. The Vampire wars figures are not true 25mm and are closer to 28mm.
The only major difference is the Blue Moon figures come with an intregral base. You will need to mount the Westwind/Old Glort Vampire Wars figures on washers to match the style.

Yeah, there are those who dislike Blue Moon figures, and I know not why.

I just love my Mummy and Frankenstein sets.

The west Wind mummies are a nice match too (basing suggestion is spot on).

Well, Smokie....

I for one am not a big fan for the Blue Moon figs...
When IN hand, some look like they are pencil necked.  On most figs that is...
My eye catches it ever time.  And it drives me nuts.
Which I think is too bad, as overall I think I would have really liked some of those sets.

I have boxes 1 to 4 of the Horror Series and really like them.  They are well detailed, paint up nicely and mix with many other manufacturers including GW, Foundry and RAFM.

Two thumbs up from me.

Unfortunately the worst thing about Blue Moon are the website paint jobs - the figs themselves are great!

No that's a good thing... this way, the figures I painted seem to look better ;)  lol

The odd thing about that is at the major conventions people come up to the booth, look at the display figures, and say "Why didn't you use these painted examples for your photos?" and they ARE the very same figures. In the interests of full disclosure I painted many of them.  ???

:o I'm shocked! I really like your work, well at least what I can see from it on this very forum ;) There must be a serious problem with the way they take the pictures :?

I don't think the painting looks that bad, heh! I like the sculpts, some are goofy, most are great.

I'll be adding some down the line, once I can get my project tightened up and a real theme together to start with.

I wasn't very aware of this range and so thanks for raising it.  Lots of possibilities, especially the American Colonial civilians, though tbh I'd prefer the flexibility to be able to buy 10 for £15 rather than 20 for £30.  :)

Thanks Calimero. I have to admit I was mildly upset the first dozen or so times I heard/read comments like that, but I got over it pretty quickly.

SI, they are nice, but on the large side. I initially planned to use their Brit and French regulars, but just found them a little too big to match up with my Conquest and Perry stuff. The civilian / horror stuff is the same size.

These are (from L to R) Old Glory, Perry, Blue Moon, Conquest, and Eureka.

You probably already know about these, but West Wind has a nice small set of semi-suitable townsfolk in their headless horseman range and they match up better IMO. http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=2_20
