As I have promised, here are some WIP pictures of my savannah trees. The first step is to make the main structure from winding wire. In the second step you have to create the tree bark. There different kind of method to do that…I have used very fine sawdust which I have glued on the wire. After the glue has dried, I glued some filter floss / filter cotton on the upper side of the branches (only a very small amount!), this will present the small twigs. Now you have to give the tree a basic colour. Because of the filter floss you have to use spray paint / airbrush. In the next step you have to glue (spray) the leaves on the upper side of the filter floss. I have used “Noch – Laub hellgrün No. 07142”, but this depends on the size of the leaves you want to present. In the last step I gave the tree trunk a drybrush and I also gave the leaves a small amount of brown spry paint. That’s it.

Can you tell me please, which plastic aquarium grass product you used for your tall grass clumps? I have been unable to find the right kind of size and shape here in the UK so far...

@Captain Blood: I use deco-grass mats, the version with short blades (3 cm). You will find them in a garden-center or deco-shop. First step is to glue one piece of grass on a circular base. Than I use some small amount of brown spray-paint to tone down the bright green colour of the grass. In the middle of the grass I glue (hot glue) a bundle of hemp sealing. You can easily trim the hemp with a scissor. Here the pictures of the material:

I think plumbers use it for the joints of pipes. It's the old fashioned version of that white tape they now use inside screw fittings.
