Favourite WWII Aeroplanes
« on: June 12, 2010, 03:56:42 AM »
Almost nicking a thread here;

 Westland Whirlwind (could have been a contender)
 Focke Wulfs (all of them ,from 190s to Huckbiens,K. Tank genius)
 Spitfire XIV (Malcom hood)
 Spits in general
 Typhoon and Tempest
 Mossies
 Bristol Beaufighter
 Anything the Finn's flew
 Horten flying wing
 Grumman Skyrocket (could have been a contender part II)
 and finally the Hurricane,if only for the Red Crayolas song 'Hurricane Fighter 'Plane'

  Edit;
 Dornier 335
 Westland Lysander
 All seaplanes and flying boats

It has to be the Stuka, because there is no plane that resembles more a bird of prey (Junkers Ju 87B - the one with the bigger canopy):

...and of course the Boeing B-17!

Big fan of 109's, Tempests, Typhoons & Mossies - have built dozens in all scales over the years but have a soft spot for both Mig and LAGG 3's

A rather obvious choice but the Spitfire, in almost any of its versions. My late papa flew one although he also flew a Mustang IV for a brief spell and said it was a marvelous aircraft.

F4U Corsair
A6M Zero
FW 190D (that looooooong nose)

The Mistel flying bomb combinations (I remember the first time I saw a picture of one in a magazine, I had to immediately read the article to reassure myself it was actually a real thing)

Just the fighters/attack...

RAF - Hawker Hurricane
USAAF - Curtiss P-40B/C
USN - Grumman Hellcat
Luftwaffe - FW190A/F (radial engine types - the 'Butcher Bird') and Bf109G-6 (the 'kitchen sink' variant - it carried everything!)
IJN - Mitsubishi A6M1 Reisen (the early variant 'Zero')
IJAAF - Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate ('Frank')
VVS - Ilyushin Il-2m3 (the one with the turret)
Regia Aeronautica - Macchi C.202

Seem to remember a 1/48 kit being available a few years ago, possibly made by Mirage?

Mirage make various PZLs in 1/48. IIRC they are a Polish manufacturer. Never seen their aircraft but they made some incredibly detailed 1/72 tanks.

Apart from Italeri, you'll find that Classic Airframes do a number of CR42s in 1/48.
