Is it just me...
« on: 26 June 2010, 08:10:36 PM »
... or does anyone else get depressed looking at Stuff Of Legends citadel stuff.

I guess it's part of my aging process but I want all of the figs there. I was thinking it would be cheaper to have a mid life crisis and buy a porsche thatn trying to find all the figs listed and then buying them!

Does any one have a nice big set, in particular the townsfolk and scenario figs (the WFRP scenario stuff not the WFB, ie: http://www.solegends.com/citc46/c46whfrpscenarios/index.htm)

If you have got them how does it feel? I could probably muster about 30 (but not many from the WFRP)

Sounds familiar - I think the porsche might be cheaper!

there must be a certain quantity of these highly prized minis that must be sitting around - unloved, coated in thick enamel paint and packed away in boxes in cupboards across the land...

Um, yeah but finding them?

I suspect many of us have a passionate interest in at least an army or two of them.

Der Kriegspielers  8) fantasy are my personal weakness.. o_o.  No, 400 dwarves  ??? (not all DK sadly/obviously) is NOT enough. ::)  LOL, I guess I should get some reasonable number of foes for them... :o

Gracias,

Glenn

Its really enjoyable getting them- its like really expensive bingo.

I am just buying them a few at a time.

Start with small ranges, such as- all the chainsaw warrior figs, then boxed sets and so forth, and work your way up to a whole storage full of lead.
Sets like McDeath or Talisman can be expensive to collect- been keeping track of Mcdeath and its going to cost you around 2000 to get a full set- Lady and Lord Mcdeath go for around 390 quid a pop, for example.

Its impossible to have a full set of everything, so its a lifelong collection.

I think I have quite a few of them but I will paint them honest. I got into collecting them in the mid 90's before Ebay and people were almost throwing them away. Its you new comers that keep pushing the price up ;).

I only have about 6 of the marauder townsfolk though and maybe twice as many of the old scenario characters.

It's not only costly but also very timeconsuming to to search through ebay or other places all the time.
It's a lot of fun though and many of the old miniatures do still show excellent sculpting abilities. The old Citadel Chaos Champions are still top of the line sculpts.

Some where in the thousands of fantasy figures that go back to the Minifig middleearth range.....  ....  Fantastiques and everything there after are a  lot of the first citadel figures, probably in my chaos armies, though not sure which army to look in.

Then again, at the mention of unpainted.. let's see, Chaos dwarves, Skaven and Slann, with a lot of the old slann in there for starters. Troglodyte force, american indian mounted force for old west. Hmm there is a stack of plastic shoe box containers of these items... neatly arranged that when I view them I get that "ah, tidy sock drawer" satisfaction :)

I can understand the urge to collect minis from the golden age of Citadel, but it's an urge I've managed to resist. There are so many great minis being produced today but only so many pennies to the pound, and I'd rather buy those mini's than get all nostalgic 20 years from now and wish I'd bought them at the time!

EDIT: I mean mini's from other manufacturers rather than GW's present output.

Thing is I do buy the ones I want from today, there just ain't that many, Otherworld being the only company at present that gets significant asmounts of cash.  I loved the old school minis at the time just couldn't afford them age 13, still love them and can afford them now.

I don't have either of the Enemy Witihin minis you mentioned binman, mainly the player charecters are the minis I have from that set but I'd love the three legged gobbo. I have a bunch of the more general PC minis from the first rule book too.

Otherworld are excellent but I'm more Old World than Forgotten Realms! Pig faced orcs don't do it for me! Might get some of the other figs but not sure many blend with citadel and I can't afford all of them!

RE Mike: I still believe that most of the 1980s citadel is top quality!

Too many to list and right across the genre board!
