I wasn't thinking a particular period; it could be between wars, early or late. The whole history seems pretty compelling to me.

I think the era you want to game is really going to inform the type of equipment that your force would have.

hmmm
interesting

now if the story is not to follow the original timeline, polish and jewish partisans could be a nice idea.

How about catholic vampire hunters then?
and jewish demonhunters?

Wasn't our previous pope (the Polish one) active during the war? Might make an interesting character.

So was the current one. On opposite sides as well. That might make a fun scenario. Dueling Pontiffs!

Yes, the irony of that had struck me at the time of his election.

Head over to SoTR and take a look at Anatoli's Project thread, a great Weird War polish force.

Just out of curiosity, is there a German "province" that’s mainly populated by Catholics other than Bavaria?

… Back on topic,  I find the picture in Commander Viper’s post to be interesting. The uniforms of 1939 and the late war tanks seem to work well together. I think that if you’re not too picky about an "accurate" timeline, you have plenty of options for your Wierd War Poles.

Those guys are ace! Many thanks for posting that.

So I'm getting some ideas in my head here: a couple of water/tree spirits summoned by...someone. A platoon of regulars in British kit, and some partisans in both older Polish kit and civilian clothes, including a rabbi controlling a golem (they could then be used as poles, Jewish survivalists, or other partisans). A priest, perhaps carrying some relic (the trumpet of Krakow perhaps?) and a 'Captain Britain'/"Black Knight" style superhero; a Polish Lancer from the early war, the last of his unit, now carrying a magical lance and wearing magical armor of old, riding a spectral horse...something like that...

The water spirit could be summoned by a village witch? Give he a few other water/wood related spells.

If you're going to do a later war force then the Golem and the Rabbi could be part of a partisan force. Lets you use some irregular minis for the rest of the partisans.

I like the lancer idea.

The priest might not want to be handling magical relics. They aren't Orthodox :-) Maybe give the trumpet to a military figure and have the priest be an inspiring figure with an ability to effect undead or magical creatures.

Sounds like a fun project. What rules are you going to be using?

I absolutely love the idea of for the Jewish gollems... Polish Jews could fight their own fight regardless of Pole/Jewish relations. It would make for a great project.

On the other hand, being a Polish American with strong ties to family overseas, I hear many stories on both sides about the sentiments the two peoples had for eachother.... In the end though, they did fight together out of necessity.

I would, however keep them distinct, the Jewish uprising against the German occupiers as one faction and the other could be the Poles with their spirit ancestors.

A lot of people don't realize that the only reson Poland fell so quickly is that they were fighting a war on two fronts. The Polish army at the outset of WW2 was one of the best trained forces in all of Europe...  They were just out maneuvered and not prepared for "Blitzkrieg"... just as every other nation. And of course... the two front thing.

I digress... Anyway, Poland has a LOT of their own beliefs and legends and have soem very deep mythology, not borrowed form the surrounding nations. I think it was summed up best though... wiht the ancestor spirit/ghost thing. I can see the knights of old or hussars comming to their aid.

Very cool thoughts all around!!!

If I did a force, it would be military with some mystic side... characters that could summon fallen heroes to defend the mother land, spirit protectors and guides. Not very Techno, but even if you do the lend lease thing, you could always add in the witches or spirit masters.
Terms of surrender will neither be granted or accepted...

this is a politics sensitive topic....

anyway, from what I read the Invasion of Poland was not that walk on the green lawn the Nazi propaganda wanted everyone to believe and the losses were considerable for the attackers.
I read about some interesting scenarios where the Blitzkrieg did have serious problems against armoured trains and cavalry and how the myth about "cavalry charge against tanks" was created

considering they were attacked from both sides it is astonishing how long the polish army resisted

Depending on the rule system you use you might be able to model this in the game.

That would be cool using them as units, but I imagin I would throw myself into one faction or the other too heavily $$$$$$.

I can easily see a Partizan Jewish force with a Rabbi in the back and hidden in the shadows waiting to rip the werewolves limb form limb a huge clay golem ot two!!! I am imagining they woulr be great against zombies too!!! I can just see the project growing too quickly to keep up with and my mountain woudl grow yet another foot or two because of the readily availabe figures.

Now, the same goes for a straight Polish force... It would appear rather plain intil the spirt summoner or witch did their thing and summoned up some ghostly painted winged hussars!!! That would be the challenge though, woudl I want to paint winged lancers or maybe some Napoleonic lancers.... I love both.
