Obelisk Baboons... Painting Suggestions?

I recently got a pack of the Obelisk Baboons thru a trade on TMP and was wondering if anyone had painted these and had some color suggestions? I was thinking GW Graveyard Earth as a base for fur and black for the face butt and hands/feet.

The ones with the blue-and-red faces are Mandrills, which are another species related to Baboons. Mandrills are big, the biggest species of monkey that there is.

Apart from the one in the TV series "Monkey", as he was as large as a Japanese actor.

Black Orc Games has a Mandrill looking critter called a "Howler" or something like that from their 100 Kingdoms "Simian Empires" range that I'd like to add to my baboon pack. They appear to be quite huge. Check them out here:

I wonder how big that Howler is?  I liked the bit in Corto Maltese when he is chased by a pack of vicious Mandrills. Be nice to have a pack ( pack? Don't know the collective noun for Mandrills) of them to have as scenery for my Africa games, but have them explode into ferocious action if the players' figures get too close to their territory.


Might be a good figure to have, but not if it's massively oversized. As it's for a fantasy game, it's a job to know.

Edit: Looking at the little picture that shows the size (didn't spot that before), it would appear that they're actually taller than your average Copplestone DA sculpt. Pity that. Mandrills are big, but not that big. Oh well. But then again, it might not matter all that much. My Rolls Royce is too small for the figures, but I still use it.

Might get some anyway.

Well, Rich says my games are Pulp, but I don't make that claim (except for "Mighty Joe Kong", which is the one that set out to capture the Pulp feel).

But that notwithstanding, yes I think my Mandrills should be larger than life.

A primatologist I knew said baboons were the nastiest animals on the planet, bar none. I say having them large is only an accurate reflection of what it's like to have one attack you.
