Anyone done the Mau-Mau Rebellion?

As usual it is hard to keep focus, Seminoles, Hereros, Colonial Germans and Chinese has got competition from the Mau-Mau Rebellion. I stumbled on it while re-searching the Maji-Maji rebellion. What sparked my interest was this article:

Without having any deeper knowledge of the forces, uniforms and equipment used I would imagine that some WW2 British would do, together with askaris in fez. On the opposing side maybe TAG, Britannia or some Darkest Africa figures. Possible?

Dave at Britannia under the Inkerman part of his business is doing a new range covering Britains small wars ,he's started with Malaya so its worth a look .

I don't think the askari in fez look is quite right for this period, not in the field, anyway (more for formal parade wear, sentry duty at a base or whatever). That chap with the fez in the photo above looks like a guard at some kind of detention camp.

The KAR in the bush in the 50s and 60s tended to dress like this:





When not in the bush an Aussie-style slouch hat with one side turned up seems to have been more common than a fez for headwear. Most pics of troops in fezzes from this era are of colour parties and such at very formal occasions.

Just a quick bit of "local" knowledge.

The Gloucesters were sent to Kenya in 1955 after Korea.

I managed to find this http://www.glosters.org.uk/textonly_timeline/7 which has a pic and a bit of background info (about a third of the way down the page). There use to be a small display in the Regimental Museum, but I haven't been over for a while so not sure if it's still there.

Pick up B'Maso from Too Fat Lardies. Covers Africa's wars post WWII. Meant to be for I Ain't Been Shot Mum and Troops, Weapons and Tactics but the scenarios and background material are superb and useful for any ruleset.

It's the Mau Mau themselves I have a hard time finding/converting a mix of european and tribal dress.
