Yankeepedlar01, when the kit was an HLBSC product, the Maxim gun came with the kit. Not having bought it from Brigade I assumed that was still the case. It would be annoying if it didn't because there is a big hole in the deck where it goes. So they make you pay extra for it now, do they? It's also odd that they make you buy those obviously World War Two figures just to a get a gun for your Great War U-Boat.

Nice one, Lon... :(

Tabletop, obviously the MG would be stowable, but if you look at the pictures, the photos of real ones lack that little octagonal deck space that the gun goes on, that's what I was referring to. That certainly doesn't look like it would be stowable below deck.

I did a little looking around and found a few pictures that may or may not be helpful. These two shots are from the Brigade games yahoo groups photo files.

According to the description on Brigade's site, the #13 sub shows the model with all the parts that are included. I don't know what the gun on the deck in this shot is. Brigade also has two separate gun crews, with machine guns included.

The sub marked #2 is a modified version of the Brigade sub. A reverisco deck gun has been added and the included machine gun has been moved up to where the wheel would normally be.

The splash guard/dive planes seem to be interchangeable. Maybe they are an extra set. Stowed on the conning tower in case they lose a dive plane in a manatee mishap or something else more terrible.

Hope that helps some

Mike

If I recall correctly you get the small machine gun with the U Boat kit, but the larger one I mounted on the forward gun position came with the three gun crew.

those are indeed, dive planes.  They would go on the front of the model, just above the waterline.  But depending on how you want to depict the model, you can leave them off.

The model with the flag above is my friend Bruce's model.  The gun and the railing are from Reversico.  Reversico does all our metal casting work on the models T's and the armored train...and we did discuss having them provide Brigade a kit of a deck gun and the railings.  Brigade has their own guns now though...but you can always e-mail John at Revirsico and order just the gun, railings, and any other bits you can use.  He's very helpful.

Nice decals and markings! Hmmm, wonder who provided those to Brigade.....

Another more modular U-boat has been discussed..but I'm all wraped up into the armored trains at the moment.  I'm not sure what our obsession is with these long, difficult to cast miniatures.

Would folks be interested in another submarine kit?  Something more generic...but modular, so you could make it bigger, have conning tower options, etc.

Yes, sounds like a great idea.

Bonus points if you can get one of your UK allies, like BAM, to carry it.  :)

Extra bonus points if you include a spare periscope I can put on another base to be a submerged marker.  :)

Having had a nose on uboat.net it would appear from the line drawings that the the UB I class did not have a deck gun, but the larger UB II class did.
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

Maybe there for gaming reasons, somewhere to stand a mini base and gun together, rather than model accuracy?

Where did the German naval flag come from?  I must have one for mine!

I just got the figure myself.  I think it just needs a little sanding to even it out.  My conning tower has a few wrinkles on one side that also need to be sanded out.  I agree that the plates are dive planes... and you get 4 of them in the package.  Also there is a machine gun included for the conning tower.  I purchased the Revirsico extra bits... for my tramp steamer and u-boat.  I got a nice 6 lb. gun so my boat can surface and blow the tramp steamer out of the water then machine gun the survivors.

You also get two nice decal sheets from Company B included with the kit.

I can't wait to start work on it!  Will post pictures when it is done!

Well, I need my sub for my GenCon board, so last night I finally started it. It's only got the base coat of paint on and I left the dive planes off. The railing is my old scratch-build standby for railings: chicken wire.

The machinegun has a pin in it and a deep hole in the sub allows me to remove it without the worry of it falling out during the game. I can also swap it out with other weapons and swivel it during game play.

Nice start! Funny you should mention chicken wire since I'm currently cutting and bending a bunch too, but for my tramp steamer...
