* Malamute gets the Horno... WIP SHOTS added 09/09/10

Yep, I am going make a Horno.





All cooking was done outside the adobe house. Bread was baked inside the horno (beehive) oven. A wood fire was built inside the horno and allowed to burn until the entire oven was very hot. Then the embers were removed and the bread placed inside the oven. A sack soaked with water was wrapped around the wooden door so it would not catch fire.

 It fits nicely in with my adobe stuff and I have been meaning to make one for ages, so what better opportunity than do it here in the competition. Not sure about whether it will fit on a CD etc, so will have to have a think about that, but it has fired (no pun intended) my enthusiasm to get on with making one.

I like the fact that the colour on this is in the same style as your other buildings, nice of the Mexicans to use your paint scheme for their stuff

Oh they will be in there alright, along with some Buritos and Chimichangas, you just won't be able to see them as we have to keep the door closed to keep the oven really hot

Apparently the smell of bread baking gives a property a homely feel and makes it more attractive to buyers 

The one in the Alamo film was more brownish, sorry to be a uniform nazi

If we're getting picky I would have to chime in that chimichangas are deep fried. 

I expect this to end up on the Boot Hill miniatures site eventually.

 Here are some WIP shots of the build so far:

Don't tell Mrs M about her favourite CD going missing from the collection

Foam Core, Polystyrene ball, kebab skewers, Balsa wood and Polyfilla for the basic construction.



I cut the foam core to size, cut the ball in half, glued it to the CD with PVA and then gave it the usual Polyfilla rendering.
When dry it was sanded to a semi smooth finish. A small door was cut to shape from balsa wood. Shown here with a Foundry Peon for size comparison.



Most of the ovens I have seen in movies and photos always have a pergola/roof.  I wanted to add a timber one that will eventually be covered with reeds cut from a brush.



The pergola in place with sand textured base ready for painting. The reeds will go on when the model is fully painted.



Some small pieces to add as set dressing along with a twig log pile.



Thats it for now until its painted
