BR-52 '28mm' Locomotive

I've always loved the BR-52 Loco (I expect because it's in so many war films) and wanted one in '28mm'.
With that in mind I contacted some people who I thought may also be interested in a group commission.
From start to finish all decisions were taken as a one-man-one-vote, which although slow worked out really well.

The master was made by the very, very, talented Ian Armstrong. The loco is scaled at 1/56, but the wheelbase is a bit narrower to run on 1/60th (S scale) track.
Jeff at Die Waffenhammer (now owns the master) and will shortly be selling copies at a very reasonable rate (it's a HUGE chunk of resin with the most fantastic detail, as good as the 1/35 version).

One should note that these were built for a duration of only 10 years in the 1940s, but were still in daily use until the 1990s and a lot survived steaming for museum railways today!

from what I can see in the pictures it can even be converted easily to a running model!

I had a chat about that....

with some work, flexible axles etc it was suggested a 4' radius for curves would probably do at a pinch.

What would have to be cut out and removed to add motors and proper wheels? It would probably be quite simple then to cast the appropriate bases for the locomotive and tender.

I'd use only the upper structure and fix the front two axles on bogies

Depends.

tender Drive.... stick a motor in the tender with motive power to all 8 wheels...

New brass chassis to hold the wheels or just brass bearings in the resin maybe.

Loco.... probably a brass or plastic (with brass bearings) chassis... etched brass or N/S rods etc.

If you powered the loco instead of the chassis, you could probably fit a chunky motor in the smoke box.

That's a really nice Loco, but it needs some fitting train cars. Are there any in 1:56 with a fitting wheelbase around?
