Grymn Tunnel Fighters
« on: September 12, 2010, 08:45:03 PM »
I have been working on this army for a good few months now and haven't bored you lot with it yet...so I thought it was about time I did :) .  The army is a bit of a mash up of different manufacturer's work.  The main troops are Grymn (from Hasslefree Miniatures) with Kolony Inner Guard heads (from Pig Iron Productions) and they are backed up by a mix of units from Warzone (Bauhaus Vulkan Battlesuits) and Ground Zero Games (droids from the 15mm stargrunt range)...

...Here is the command squad (complete with comms-drone):

...Here is a squad of 'Clankers' (Vulkan Battlesuits):

Here is the alien equivalent of a K-9 patrol unit (MIni-Mawes from Hasslefree):

An army pic:

And the latest work in progress...another basic squad (minus the comms-drone):

...and finally, a squad of drones with a Grymn to control them all (The drones are all from GZG):

I still have a long way to go with the army as I plan to add transports and at least another 3 squads of basic troops...and...

Those hounds make you wander how the guys themselves look under those masks!

What sort of transport are you planning on?

Very, very nice units.

Do have a concern about whether, given some of those heavier looking weapons, they are totally efficient for Tunnel Fights (Vietnam comes to mind) or more of a Underground Complex Clearing Crew type unit where there would be long hallways and/or open chambers (Moria in space type combat.)

Quibble aside, very nice work.

Gracias,

Glenn

Thanks for all the comments :) .

What's under the masks?...I am suggesting that they would be Grymn BUT I have deliberately made every one of them wear a helmet...so they could be aliens...or something else...hey, maybe I could make a couple of characters without the helmet that were different races...that way I could decide on the day what they should be :).

When I thought about 'Tunnel Fighters' I was thinking more along the lines of underground caverns like in the Starship Troopers film...in fact, I started putting them together as enemies for my desert Tyranids...so I definitely had Starship Troopers on my mind when I started this army.  They would definitely be inappropriate for Vietnam style tunnel-systems due to the over-large weapon systems and heavy equipment (as mentioned)...so it wasn't a quibble, it was sense on your part Mr. C :).

One thing that I am pretty happy with is that every Grymn is converted...that's a lot of head-swaps :D.
