EM4 Mechs and space craft in 6mm?
« on: October 02, 2010, 10:54:03 PM »
I am building a small force in 6mm to be used both in Kaiju gaming and Dirtside II Now I am still looking for some cheap and nice Walkers and Fighters/bombers, can anybody tell me if the EM4 Mechs and Spacecraft, or at least some of them, could be useful for this? I think that they are cheap enough to try it, but perhaps somebody tells me they tried and failed? I hope not!

Also, darn the 6mm bug seems to be going around this week!

greetz,

I think the plastic mechs are nice, although some of the weapons are a bit clunky; on the other hand, they do look more like "japanimation" robots than the more down-to-earth Battletech style of the 90s (yes, don't get me started). You get three body poses (five mechs in total), if I'm not mistaken, and a variety of weapon arms. Don't have any pictures.

Well worth the price EM-4 charge (2.50 for five, if I'm not mistaken). Can't do much wrong with that. The plastic paints up reasonably well, to my mind.

Cannot comment on the Spaceships, although some could also be used as kaiju-movie-style fighter planes. They may be a bit small for 6mm, but then again, the Japanese built their tanks small, too...

Yes, if I am going to buy the mech I will buy 3 or 4 packs at once, to be honest currently I am mainly interested in the more "chicken walker" one, which is only one in the pack, and indeed more realistic, they look nice for Dirt side which is pretty gritty, and at the price they are still cheaper then the battletech models IIRC, the others are much more suited to fight giant monsters indeed, tough the might be a nice basis for a more Anime evil empire superior tech in dirt-side as well. Ie at 3 packs I have 3 walkers for my somewhat low level force, the chikens, and I would have 12 of the other mechs, pretty much a good start of of a force I think!

And all that for less than ten quid.

Indeed, I am mainly posting to make sure nobody whips around and screams "don't do it, Its not worth it!" or something similar.

Also, I have some of the mechwarior dark age models, which I cant say I like much (and you want a few of most vehicles for Dirtside anyway) but I do have a few of the smaller powers armors, which might work as Dirtside infantry walkers I think!

Did some thinking, and since the longest of the space craft is 3.7 CM it could be 11 meters in scale, that is shorter then most modern day fighters, and that is the largest one. The other would be even smaller. Tough I love their prices these models clearly are unsuited for my purposes. The walkers still look good on the other hand!

So does anybody know some cheap near future/far future fighters? (I am currently splitting forces into a low and a high tech side)

There are some pictures with em4 mechs here :

The pictures aren't terribly clear, but we were trying to photograph the paint.

Thanks, your pictures do actually make them look better! You wouldn't be able to give me an estimate hight would you? I can guestimate but at 6mm that inaccuracy is rather huge.

Haven't got the figures to hand at present, but the three storage cannisters in the picture with the mechs are exactly 40mm high, and the bases are standard GW thickness plastic bases. Does that help ?

I'll overlay a correctly sized grind then!

Somewhere between 1,8 and 2 cm roughly, without bases that is. Sounds right enough, 6mm high in 1/300, that is a pretty large machine, I can imagine that containing a pilot or two.

Indeed, they're all bigger than 30mm...

Glad to be of service ;)

I have only used the mechs for 28mm but with some minor conversions they are all quite nice models, here are some of mine:

http://combatzonechronicles.net/cozox/polis3.htm

I replaced the weapons and cut off the peg on top, replacing it with a flashlight, I also cut off the 'fins' from the rear so I could reposition the legs, it's standing on a 25mm base.

I didn't change the model much, I just painted this one 8)

http://combatzonechronicles.net/cozoxc/stryker.htm

On this one I cut away the 'wings' and placed some spacers between the arms and the body, I also placed the arms slightly higher. I changed the weapon on the right arm a bit and left the weapon on the left arm intact.

On these models I replaced the arms completely but as you can see the biodies are still quite nice and not extremely japanimation-like. Good luck with your efforts! 8)

Very nice, thanks for  the pictures, you have also shown me that some small modifications are completely feasible, something I was a bit worried about before.
