Victorian Factory/Mill wip.
« on: October 19, 2010, 05:43:59 AM »
A while ago I posted some pictures of model in response to some ideas Pappa Midnight was throwing around:

I finally brought it off the shelf and make it a major player in a VSF/Horror game I'll be running at Kublacon in May.
I'm basing the game heavily on the Unhallowed Metropolis milieu and plan for the rundown mill to be where all the zombies start issuing forth from. The piece will be fairly large with the main building and a smaller outbuilding surrounded by a brick wall.

I ordered some pipefittings from Reverisco that fit on quarter inch tubing.

I put some together and leaned them against the building to get an idea of how they'll look.

And finally I did some work on the main gate.

Wow! Very atmospheric already!

I think the big pipes over the front door might be a bit distracting. Have you tried them running along in the same position but on the floor above?

Forgot about this, great building and I like that gate - I had to read it out aloud before I got it  lol.

Looking forward to see how this develops.

Amazing. Is the factory built from scratch or can I get it anywhere?

Looking fantastic, I agree with Christian about the pipes above the door, any chance of them going over further up or perhaps the other way around the building?

LOVE IT!!!  :-*

Looks awesome before any paint. I've never seen those pipe fittings before, they have loads of possibilities.
May I ask where you got the frame for the sign?

Interesting that you are basing a game on Unhallowed Metropolis. I've just ordered a train (1/50) and am looking for suitable miniatures for the same reason ( Undertaker,Mourner etc)

Can't wait to see this finished ( pretty sure it'll be done before mine as you've already done all the hard work!!!)

BTW:I know I've asked before, UK supplier of your goodies....?

Regards

Thanks everyone. Watching Life on Mars and hearing DCI Hunt use the phrase gave me the name and galvanized  into doing something with the model.

Lt Hazel: The building is made from parts I have cast in resin. You can see more of what I have done in this kind of thing here:
http://rotanddrivel.com/halloween09.htm

PM: No UK supplier, not even a US supplier as such. That may change in the coming year as I hope to devote more time to the project in general. This game I'm setting up may become one giant advert.

The iron work on the gate came from a 1/35 scale street scene with tram lines put out by a company called Mini Art.

The pipes will be raised and straightened a little before they are secured but I had actually intended that they break up the aesthetic of the building. I will probably run some more pipe into the walls in other places as well. My goal is to have the thing look like an older warehouse that has been hastily converted to meet the needs of a mad scientist.
