Arrived!
« on: 27 October 2010, 01:10:06 AM »
My rules just arrived (thanks Lurch :)),and I'm very impressed. Commonsense rules with just the right amount of detail, intuitive game play, perfect for freikriegspiel (did I get that right chaps?).

  So thanks Driscoles,thanks Chris :)

 Cheers

Ah, probably got it wrong then, in my mind it was 'free wargame' or perhaps' loose wargame'. My written English is lousy,shouldn't try German as well, just make matters worse. o_o lol   I'll shut up.......

Besides....whats a Freikriegsspiel

Basically, close to the original rules used by the Prussian General Staff for simulations, in that you have an umpire using just a set of guidelines based on experience.

The players don't roll dice but make decisions and submit those to the umpire, who then decides upon the outcome of the situation based on his experience and the guidelines. The umpire still might use dice for an element of chance, but it's not as prevalent as in the "buckets of dice" approach of 40k, Fantasy, and to a lesser extent T&T.

So, basically, you are not restricted by the rules but by reality.

@Topic:

Glad the book arrived safely. I too hope you'll enjoy it. If you have any questions on the rules, feel free to post here (unless there's already a topic on the problem), and we'll be happy to help, if possible.

Hi,

Sorry to jump on your thread Greywolf.

I also received my copy of the rulebook and Colonial supplement and they look great and I'm looking forward to getting a couple of Zulu War units on the table! I'm using 15mm as I already have a pile painted and well, I don't own any 25mm besides the odd one or two.

Once they're out of the oven I'll have a better look. I say the oven as when I openned the box both books were wet through (Arghhhhhhhhhh  >:(), as the box had sat in a puddle of water during transit! I hope it was during transit...

I was pretty angry when I openned the box but on the upside it does give them that olde world book look  :D
