Whats on my Workbench?
« on: November 01, 2010, 06:05:16 AM »
Having been re-inspired by entering the 2nd Build Something Contest, here is what I am currently working on.

My main project is for WW2 Fall of France using Crossfire rules.
Why? well a lot of my gaming is inspired by childhood memories and for some strange reason I had a fascination with the French in WW2, I think initially due to the lovely Heller 1/35th scale kits, also I won my first ever painting competition with a Heller French WW2 Motorcycle and rider at SELWG 30 years ago. Since then have read a lot about this time and like the clash of old and new, technology v tradition, cavalry v tanks etc. Intend to put a slight Commando Comics slant on everything, with dashing heroics etc.
What I have so far: Scenery item again inspired by childhood memories.

The main element is missing as on my first attempt felt it was too large, though still looked good. If anyone can guess what it will be based on (Matakishi your excluded I am afraid :D), I will send them the first version, which can be finished into a good bit of scenery.
I am awaiting delivery of all the BEF Miniatures British and German infantry + a Matilda II (another fav) and one squad each of French and German from Crusader Miniatures. need to find some 50/60 round bases with recesses for 3 pennies and magnatise so have options of trying different rules and scenarios.

Linked is this 1/48th Bristol Blenheim

Airfix kit as a kid ::) will use as scenery for above, a bit daunting these mixed media kits but quite pleased with how the resin has cleaned up and handled so far, bought new sharp knive blades (essential)

Junk Robots, detailed in another thread

And finally more of a long term background project ~ Malifaux. I have bought quite a few of the gangs and gaming buddies have others, I love the rules and how they play.
Collette Du Bois Showgirls, for which my entry in the contest was built. and Neverborn Dreamer, Nightmare and Teddy.
Want to eventually build 2 x 3 Theatre board to house the organ and gang

Hopefully posting here will encourage results. steaming ahead at moment progress wise are robots, figures should be finished tomorrow.

Look like a very fun project 8)

Isn’t your scenery item based on the Airfix Strongpoint? ;)
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

I'm not allowed to say :(

All good stuff Simon, looking forward to seeing it develop. You might consider a blog or website (Webbsite?) to chart your progress, let me know if you decide to and want any help with either.

Hei Elysium,

will steal the idea with the steelbarrel-body for R2 ;)
Could use it for my  "Star Wars 1942" project.

Is 3PO also scratchbuild/converted?

Cheers

Feel free to pinch ideas, C3PO is the giveaway fig from this years SALUTE, if you ask around might get one here or on Ebay.

I love the barrel/R2-D2 conversion.
Simply fabulous
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Was thinking of using the Darkson Robot Trooper for 3PO, but hadn't any good idea for R2, until now ;)
