Halo/Colonial Marines
« on: November 22, 2010, 03:07:03 PM »
Here are a few of my 'Colonial Marines/Halo Marines'.  I tried to make them a bit generic to work either way.

My picture taking skills are lacking, and I feel the paint jobs too.  What do you think they need?

The bases, I wanted very simple, and just painted them grungy metal looking, then added fine lines to give the illusion of panels on the floor decking.

All EM-4 minis, which are absolutely wonderful, and insanely cheap.

See you got them done, nice.

For me the green's just a little too bright there bud, might just be your camera work.

I'm kinda focussing on the reach halo marine forces and some of the design artwork out there for inspiration. The marines look a look grittier, heavier in armour and equipment, also some nice alternative colour scheme artwork floating around, giving the marines based their a real unique reach feel.

Well, 6 done of the 20 I bought...LOL.  Still, I'm taking it as a win!

The green is a smidge bright for me as well....It was too dark, and I brought it back up, but probably should have left it.

Appreciate the comments!

I really like the gold coloured visors.  Might have to pinch that idea!

Don't remember the last time time I saw you post something you've painted lol
Though to be honest I don't tend to frequent the CMON forums anymore which could be why. Last thing I remember is that you were on a crusade to get everything out of its box/blister and put together;D, how did that work out?
These are good, but I concur with C.V., the green is a little too bright.
The camo on the uniform looks the part, and the highlights on the armour all look pretty good. I like what you've done with the bases, it's simple and effective, but if you stuck squares of paper to the base, then used a file to sand them off so you were left with a nice clead round edge to the base, then you''d get the raised panel effect, and I imagine in the long run it'd take less time than having to paint all those straight blacklines, a little bit a relief would mean you could just drybrush the buggerz too ;)
Over all, great looking squad :D

That crusade seems to be ongoing....I've a whole cabinet of miniatures that are assembled, and primed, and ready for paint...But oodles more still in little ziploc baggies.   Problem is, I keep buying more.  Funny how that works!

Thanks all for the comments.

they are really nice, and i like the bright green: you give those soldiers a bit of colour.

maybe not the best for a realistic camouflage, but i don't mind it! ^^

are they plastic em4? or metal one?

if metal, wich series? 'cause some lines are really old and poor.

Metal ones, fellow. Future Skirmish Troopers is what they are.

Very nice Jim, really like them. You play the same games as me as I can see, it's a shame you live so far.

I think the green is spot on from what I can see. Reach is a more sandy and light-coloured environment anyhoo. A lot of us still have that "everything is darker in the far future" mindset acquired from a certain influence.

I still prefer the marines from the first game in comparison to all of them, but that's not where the thread train is supposed to go. :D
