Some of my Sudan 15s

've decided to rehabilitate/augment my 15mm Sudan collection. It's been wallowing away in boxes since 2002 and was originally based for a quick DBx style match; no longer interestedin those rules, so I'm rebasing it all for BP and will also be giving a solo game of 'A Good Dusting' a try soon.

Here is a Sniper stand. (One per army in AGD.)



Mahdist artillery and cavalry.




Some field guns and dismounted Camel Corps. Two stands painted in 2002, back in my terrain in an afterthought days, and the third (shown in bottom pic) last week.





Some rocks. Found some little 3mm plywood circles at the craft store and have been cutting them into little schmoo shapes. This is the first to receive any scenic treatment.



Between the rebasing and painting, by middle of next week I think I will have something like 10 x 30 figure Rubs, 2 Krupps, and 24 camel plus 24 hoprse mounted Mahdists. One the British side I'm looking at 6 x 24 figure Infantry companies, 2 gatling guns with a small Naval contingent, 24 cavalry, 2 field guns, and a small element of mounted infantry. I'll also put together some of the special units form AGD to make it more fun, such as 'Cunning Native Types.' These are all Old Glory. One of their better ranges, IMO

Very nice! Looks very good. I painted some the Old Glory 15's Sudan Fuzy Wuzies to help a friend out with his Sudan project...I swore it was the last time I'd paint anything that small! I nearly went cross-eyed. But the buildings and oasis were fun to paint.

Very nice.  I always enjoy a fine collection of 15s.  My Sudan is Essex, Old Glory and some Two Dragons.  Again, very nice work.  Gerard knows his colonials, so a hats-off from him is solid praise.  Thanks for sharing your collection.

More of my Old Glory 15mm Sudan stuff. All complete now except 2 x rifle armed Rubs and 1 x Mahdist cavalry. Finished painting the Camel Corps over the weekend aong with mounted infantry; these still need basing. Going to shoot for next weeknd to try out a solo game of 'A Good Dusting'. In the meantime:

I couldn’t resist, and despite the need for more work on the bases of the figures use, I went and played a six turn test game of David Bickley’s “A Good Dusting” rule set.  These are straightforward rules involving lots of dice, but not in a fussy way.  Since they include a nice auto generation mechanism for Mahdist movement, they suit my needs quite well.

My overall impression of the rules is positive.  They delivered an easy system to play and an clear outcome.  While the sheer numbers of casualties that can be inflicted with an unusually good roll of say 24 dice was a little disconcerting, it seemed to work well.  The British had a clear advantage at range, but quickly lost this once the Mahdist forces closed range.  I think with better or more detailed scenario development on my part A Good Dusting will fit the bill for me. I recommend them for anyone looking for a fun and quickly paced Sudan game.

Those pics are worth their weight in gold, as there are   few pics of OG Sudan range figures are on the Web.

I mostly have OG, Essex, Peter Pig   for my Sudan set up.    Mostly.

I am ordering a large batch of Warrior/Gallia figures (they sell individual poses, many of figures unavailable elswhere), and the Dixon Sudan 15s look very good as well.  (But Dixon sells in packs of ten, of the SAME pose!    So to get, say one artillery team, I need to order five packs, or FIFTY figures!  Boo, Hiss!!! )

Say what?  Dixon has 15 mm Sudan?  I'll have to check into that.  I think their Indian Mutiny artillery came in packs of 4 different figures but don't know as its been many years since acquired and long organized out of the bags and into unit boxes - and mostly awaiting paint.
