Architectural gargoyles and grotesques?
« on: 05 December 2010, 11:06:16 PM »
Who makes them? I know there are plenty of gargoyles of fantasy gargoyles being made by various companies but I mean the kind you would actually see on a cathedral or monument.

Games Workshop actually did some nice ones that they sold with pillars and grave stones etc. Unfortunately if I do a search for Games Workshop gargoyle I get tyranid stuff :(

the GW ones are the only ones I have been able to find - they are part of the Warhammer Scenery section and are called "Gothic Scenery"... I want the gargoyles but cant justify the $50AUD for two tiny bits from the set  :'(

I even made posts in various forums to see if someone had some parts to sell, but no luck.

Edit - an image of the set:

There's a new section on the LMW for these:

Try Fenris... there's a couple of good gargoyles there.

You know, this would make a great theme for a sculpting contest... :)

Indeed. Gargoyles are useful for many different periods and settings.Perhaps you should get that going.

Hammers, I used the ones Sheerluck Holmes has posted when I built Castle Dracula.

I phoned the mail order department and bought a job lot of the gargoyles etc, but it was coming up for ten years ago....!

Pegasus models gothic church set has some good gargoyles.

There's also wall sconces doors and extras there. The only problem you might have with them is they come with a plastic tab on the back to fit into the pillar sections! Really good set. Should be about £20.

Aren't those building bits originally from Freebooter, as seen here, for example?

Thomarillion does a few standing gargoyles and corbels.

Thanks for all the input! Perhaps one should also recall that GW makes a lot of architectural details these days, quite often available through bits vendors.

Hey hammers!

I thought I'd give you some more pictures of that Pegasus set. I got that and a ruined building set to make up terrain for warhammer 40k. My idea was to use it for a big ruined building where I would make up the four corners so I could change the shape for every game played with it. I'm afraid gamer mac has the only finished bit I had, but I've posted some pictures of a wip to show what can be done with it.

The first two pictures show the gargoyles both front and back, showing the tabs. I hope this is some use...What's your plan anyway?

Thanks! Not exactly what I have in mind though.I am making a Victorian building which is supposed to work as a school or a club building. I want it to look Baronial Style.
