If I may ask, what is the 'concept' behind the skinwolves? I'm not familiar with them, so I'm not sure exactly how the various layers should be represented. And, your disappointment is probably not your fault- I'm not 100% sold on the sculpt, particularly the face.

I know you asked for positive feedback- you certainly do paint well, and can't say if the colors are 'off' for what they are- but like you my overall feeling is 'not too sure'.  :)

the idea around them is they are werewolves the instead of transforming from humans litterally rip out of their human skin which is the random crap all over the body

Keep the Faith...we all know the Fuzzy Fang Faces will turn out UBERCOOL. Tempting as embedding them in the wall seems, you'll regret it later.
AND I love their eyes.

Ok, that makes sense. Where are you in the process, in terms of coloration? Is the grey a primer coat? That's throwing me off somewhat I think.

cheers guys

my original idea the instant I saw the models was to do them like the lycans in underworld

But i tried to be too clever and ended up perverting the inspiration.

I think I need to return to the original idea is in order yes I will have wasted half a Sunday worth of painting but from experience when I dislike something THIS much so soon it is best I go back to the drawing board.

I think the wolf skin is too pink, it ought to be darker. What was your plan for the human skin parts?

I think the problem is that it's not reading like it's transforming. It looks more like some poor wolf was shaved in a horrible hazing session at Wolf College and then tried to glue scraps of fur and cloth on top of the naked skin to get a little wolfishness back afterwards.

That's not a dig at your painting sketch though - it's problem with the sculpt. It doesn't look like the wolf fur is coming OUT of the human skin. And the human skin fits the face too well.

So.......I have stripped them and will start again doing them like the the original.  I think it will work a hell of a lot better and there will be a lot of contrast between the dark skin and fur of the wolf and the torn shreds of human skin.

So the lesson I have learnt from this is simplicity and go with my initial thoughts.

You know, I just now realized that the previous version was basically inverted: You had the human skin grey and the wolf parts pink.

Okay, I see how it's supposed to look now. I think what you were trying was neat and worth the attempt, but it just didn't work out in the end.

Well the shredded skin was going to be human as well so it would have looked aweful due to a lack of contast between the wolf's skin and the human skin but i realised the errors of my ways very early so had only painted the wolf skin before I decided to stop, only half a saturday wasted :D

Frustrating but I'm sure they'll scrub nice eventually.

I thought the original pink looked nice and raw (contradiction on terms!) but I can see how you'd run into problems later contrasting it enough with the human bits. Good luck with the repaint!

I don't recall ever having seen a shaved wolf (or dog), but if some dogs are anything to go by, their skin might be a pale colour that needn't be all that pinkish.

Perhaps, some online image searches might yield wolf skin colours that don't look all that human? Unfortunately, "skin" also brings up so-called "skins" for video games, too...

As I recall, my old Jack Russell terrier had very pale skin with darker, greyish blotches.

I worked on the repaint of the skin going a whole lot darker.

Thoughts?

I think it looks not only heaps better but also it will look normal (as normal as flayed skin on a werewolf can look) when the other "skin" gets done

Tons better - I noticed my Black Lab's skin was a pale greyish colour when tickling his belly the other day!
