I love where this is going. I'm glad someone's getting something from my build. Test pieces are such a good idea. I sometimes make them also and it gives something the kids can play to destruction with after.

Please build a test piece for the door. I found that the spacing of just the mounting board (approx. 1.5mm) was a tight fit for my doors' thickness and I ended up going with square toothpick spacers instead that are 2.5mm. Had to rip out a few doors after I noticed. My doors are thick though; 2 printed layers of cardstock mounted on cereal card. Otherwise if you just use two (or three) layers of cardstock for the doors if should be fine. It also helps if you round off the top of the spacing mounting board where the door slides in, it gives a wider mouth for the door to enter. Let me know if you need a pic for clarity.

Mama pajama. This is awesome stuff. I'd say it was inspiring but no amount of inspiration would give me the skills to pull all this off. Major conversions, sculpting, and freaking electronics on top of everything else. More please!

Sanded perspex for frosted glass. Great idea, stolen, and implemented. The 'frosted' doors look good and you can just make out the figures on the other side. I do need a finer sandpaper though.
Will you have different coloured LEDs to indicate different conditions or just white? Red comes to mind. Thanks again for sharing the details and steps of the build.

I like the 2.5D lander. If sized correctly, you might be able store it flat in one of the corridors, keeping with the small, portable aspect of you board. Can't wait to see your version.
