my plan of painting stuff that I've been hauling for at least 2+ years.

What a novel idea. I might give that a go...

Only 2+ years! Lightweight!  :D

Expanded the Englanders.. it feels really great to paint so much so fast.  lol

These look great.  As mainly a 28mm painter who has dabbled in 6mm in the past, I agree there is a real satisfaction to knocking out smaller-scale models in droves.  Not that these are 'knocked out'...nice work, sir!

I found that 6mm works well for periods where it's easy to distinguish the two sides due to uniform, formation etc - the Sudan seems ideal for this. Not so good for Dark Ages, where you have two hordes of brown men with brown clothes and shields....

I think you're spot on. I was contemplating Vikings vs. Saxons at a point... but the minis just don't seem easy to differentiate at this scale. I might give it ago anyway and just apply my 'usual historical hacksaw'.  lol

Another 'era' that should work a treat with 6mm would be Roman times. That is if you believe that the Romans had a uniform appearance (which I don't)  ;)

Either way I think the spirit of the Sudan campaign is easily transportable to 6mm. At least I hope.

I am so tempted, even looked at Baccus' site.  I'd forgotten how cheap that this scale is.....  o_o

It's a bit fiddly at first, but I think it's the right scale for 'battles'. I think you should just go ahead. ;D

I'm seriously considering this scale as well, although I must admit I've yet to be convinced that the Sudan can be wargamed realistically beyond the company level.

Hmm painting has stalled due to the arrival of Saul David's "Victoria's Wars: The Rise of Empire" which I'm now busy reading... did manage some silly business (VSF) earlier but that's about it.

Expect to return to 6mm colonials as soon as my reserves from Baccus arrive.

Interestingly the book has made me think about the first Anglo Afghan war..  lol

Did the British uniforms of that campaign differ from those of Napoleonic times at all ?

Yes, although in 6mm only the bell-topped shako would stand out.  ::)

If you've seen Perry twins Carlist War Brits then the uniforms in the First Afghan War are quite similar to that.

Being a nitpicking button-counter I think they are very different to Napoleonic era uniforms. A Danish person with a background in VSF might think they look pretty much the same. It's all relative.  lol

Anyone read Saul David?

Just ordered his 'Zulu Hart' or whatever... I'm thinking Colonial Sharpe. We'll see when it gets here.  :D ;D

That's fair. Although you have it the wrong way around. I bought colonial models way before VSF ever even entered my thoughts. Just never got around to play it.

I've had Zulu in 28mm, 15mm, 10mm (gave them away - but the bloke never got further than me) and now I'm finally in 6mm. I'm sure I'll visit 28mm colonial again though. Just not really sure when or when (what period).  lol
