Small Skirmish Gaming
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:46:43 AM »
Our Wednesday night gaming group usually plays roleplaying games, but we're getting to a point where we're going to change the long running game we've been playing. I fancied running a few games linked together in some sort of rough story. What ever game i make up it has to be made up quickly and im trying to make as little new stuff as possible. I'm thinking along the lines of Brittish troops into occupied Europe.  The first game being parachuted into the country and trying to find their kit and escape off the board. The second game I think I might play across a bridge in the middle of a town( like the end of Saving Private Ryan) and the third being some sort of objective to destroy( like gamer macs submarine :D)

Has anybody got any good ideas for some mini games? We've only got troops, no vehicles. About a squad on each side with a German heavy machine gun crew also.

Here's what I've got so far with the bridge part...

Most of this is stuff we had for a warhammer 40k board. Bridge, stairs, embankments and tank traps. I know they're probably not to scale, but they look alright.

I've also got gamer macs 'build something' entry to use on the board...

I've made up a few simple destroyed buildings to fight round...

Still WIP.

These free rules would work well. Our group used them when we first started building 28mm WW2 forces.

They use a squad a side and have a campaign/rpg slight aspect to them..Red Poppy White Feather

Sorry Lowtardog, I should have mentioned. I was planning to use .45 adventure rules. We're quite well versed in them. It was more missions or objectives I was looking for. Cheers anyway, I'll have a look through them.

No porblems, the reason I listed them is they have scenarios or missions in the rules :D with a campaign sort of system for replacement troops and such which could be wedged into the .45 system

Hi Andym,
how about a night time prisoner snatch as in Band of Brothers in Hagenau?
or US troops trying to take out a MG nest cover the bridge - but make it so they can't just sit back in cover and shoot.
or have 2-3 snpiers surrounding the other side who start on the bridge and must take out the snipers to escape as per the finale of the film ANZIO.
or have the two sides fight for control of the bridge but have artillery rounds landing at random throughout the game - randomise number of shells and impact points.

hope that helps
