NEWS FLASH: The errant Pumpkin Head Pistoleer has been found & reunited with his sword arm. He was found upside down in one of the paint trays. His Comrades were thrilled to see him...for the most part.

Great news indeed, Al  :)

The Shaman looks ace  ;D

Thanks for the reply, Tobias. I didn't realize how much I missed the Big Melon Guy until I found him...I haven't figured out how I missed seeing him before.
I'm happy you like the Shaman. When the rest of his crew are done I'll do a Group shot on one of the boards...The Spooky Woods is a likely candidate.
I'd NEVER join a club that would have me as a member.  G.Marx

Stunning work on more, oh so welcome, Pumpkin Folk.

I am still fascinated with the orange you build up on those 'Big Heads', I love that shade.

Thanks for the reply, Paul. The morale boost is appreciated!
The Pumpkin starts with a Russet wash to darken the low points. Then I paint all the high points light, bright orange that has a touch of brown to it (Canyon Orange). Then a Iron Oxide/Rust wash, highlight again with the Canyon Orange, & finally a bright Orange highlight. It sounds complicated, but it goes pretty quick,,,not letting the washes completely dry make for a smooth transition.

Thanks for the walkthrough, Amigo.
Much appreciated.
 :D

Now I just need to find something that simply HAS to be painted orange.
 ;)

Pumpkins are about it for me. The occasional bit of orange clothing is usually done in a brighter, less organic shade.

Lovely shaman! The expression on his face alone makes me smile.

Thanks for the reply, Malebolgia! I'm glad you like him.
All the Jack O'Lanterns are splendidly expressive...& silly. I'd like to start making some of my own to add some variety. Between these Guys & my Mushrooms my life, such as it is, has been taken over.

I was just thinking...in some way your project reminds me of Kingdom Death. Not because of the theme (they are WAY different :D), but the way you conjure a setting and theme and translate it to your miniatures. Seeing the pictures makes me want to see and know more of your fantasy world and how it all connects together. It's just such a novel and fresh approach, I really love that 8)

Thanks once more, Malebolgia. That's quite a nice compliment.
I love most of the Kingdom of Death stuff. I have no idea what the background is, but the voluptuous Babes & the imaginative Knights, especially the Flower Knight, are wonderful creations. They are way outside my price range, which has saved me from going off on a tangent.

Before The Move from Long Island to Texas, I did most of my painting for other Folk. Once I settled in, I figured I had one more decent sized project left in me. This time I would follow my own fantasy visions with some influence from the things I had come to love within the genre....things like the works of Jim Henson, The Frouds, Tim Burton, Terry Pratchett, Bugs Bunny, Mark Twain, & others. You can see the influence while it still remains my own spin on things. I am delighted you are enjoying it.

Another wonder... and more great pumpkin painting as the others have already said. You do a great job with these fellows.

The Camera pointed out a couple more spots to be touched up...if I take enough photos the Beasty will be perfect.

This is such an amazing thread!

Looking back through some of it, what struck me, aside from the incredible creativity, is how vibrant and beautiful your colour usage is. I was looking at the trunk monster; the tones you've got in the wood grain are fantastic.

Looking forward to seeing some more.

Thanks for the kind words, hubbabubba. I am delighted you are enjoying the thread.
I do love vibrant colors. With the current subdued shades & limited palette in vogue, I am always pleased that someone else enjoys the bright hues.
I will keep at it as long as my heart continues to beat or whatever it's doing in there.

As threatened, I've started making some Jack O'Lanterns of my own:

...they are, if nothing else, fun to make.
