Legion of Cthulhu (Hordes)

Ok guys, were to start?
 In the last year i nearly total switched over to Warmahordes and enjoyed playing my Cryx. As my second faction i now choose the Legion of Everblight.
For those of you who are not Familiar with them look here

Especially the Warbeasts have a really Alien-Feel to them. But why not turn Legion of Everblight into Legion of Cthulhu? My fate was sealed when i saw this

Blighted Nyss Shepherd -1 (=Deep One High Priest)

2 Spell Martyrs -2 (=Sons of Yog-Sothoth)

Total= 35 Points

And here’s the worst. I tried to photograph it for you, but when I developed the film there wasn’t anything visible except the woodshed. What can the thing have been made of? I saw it and felt it, and they all leave footprints. It was surely made of matter - but what kind of matter? The shape can’t be described. It was a great crab with a lot of pyramided fleshy rings or knots of thick, ropy stuff covered with feelers where a man’s head would be. That green sticky stuff is its blood or juice. And there are more of them due on earth any minute.

The model itself turned out better than i thought. Now for some painting......

The figure, which was finally passed slowly from man to man for close and careful study, was between seven and eight inches in height, and of exquisitely artistic workmanship. It represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. This thing, which seemed instinct with a fearsome and unnatural malignancy, was of a somewhat bloated corpulence, and squatted evilly on a rectangular block or pedestal covered with undecipherable characters. The tips of the wings touched the back edge of the block, the seat occupied the centre, whilst the long, curved claws of the doubled-up, crouching hind legs gripped the front edge and extended a quarter of the way clown toward the bottom of the pedestal. The cephalopod head was bent forward, so that the ends of the facial feelers brushed the backs of huge fore paws which clasped the croucher's elevated knees. The aspect of the whole was abnormally life-like, and the more subtly fearful because its source was so totally unknown. Its vast, awesome, and incalculable age was unmistakable; yet not one link did it shew with any known type of art belonging to civilisation's youth - or indeed to any other time.

 This is my interpretation of a Starspawn of Cthulhu. I have to say that i'm a total noob at modelling, so any help critisicsm is welcome. What do you guys think?

I will let the Green Stuff dry until tomorrow and than start to blend the head and the tentacles together.

I never would have thought to use a River Troll for that - but I love it, great choice for a body.  Looking forward to seeing it finished!

My inspiration for the Starspawn was a conversion of a really fat ugly 40k Orkboss using the Rivertroll as a body. I have seen many Cthuluesque 40k conversions (mostly Tyranids) and many of them are truly impressive.

But one thing always bothers me:
Often there are only a tentacled head+Wings and now it is Cthulhu. But Lovecraft descripes Cthulhu not really in a "Warrior shape".

This thing, which seemed instinct with a fearsome and unnatural malignancy, was of a somewhat bloated corpulence,....

We know little about him but he is fat  

And i found a model with a goofy pose but looks alittle bit like Lovecraft:
