Upcoming Pirate Project
« on: March 03, 2011, 11:29:13 PM »
I'm looking to start another new project. But I need some help.
I've been watching Pirates of the Caribbean for historical accuracy (LOL) and have decided that I want two forces.
The first is an East India Trading Company/ British Royal Navy force.
The second arrrggh Pirates of course.

Th pirates arrrggh easy: Artizan, Crusader, Foundry and maybe some Black Scorpion mixed in.
For the EIC/RN, I'm having a bit of difficulty. I know Black Scorpion have some but I think they are slightly too tall compared with some of the pirates.
I'm thinking about using Front Rank Seven Years War and War of Spanish Succession British with Tricorne hats.

Does anyone know how Front Rank compare with the aforementioned pirates?

Anyone have any Old Glory pirate ships that they are never going to get around to?
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Front Rank WSS fit very well with "characters"  from the Foundry range since those are already a tad bigger that the "rank and file" pirates within the range.

Here are two pictures I take earlier. Note that the WSS Figures are not based...

Cheers!  :)

A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

No, but I recommend the following vessels:

The Sea Dog for your Pirate Sloop:

http://www.gamesofwar.net/acatalog/Pirate_Supplies_Store.html

A great looking vessel for 15.00 GBP, if I recall correctly, and that includes free international shipping.  You could also use this for a privateering or pirate hunter sloop as well.

Various ships from Old Glory would work for your Dutch vessel, especially their nice, large Indiaman vessel.  If you're on a budget, but still want a nice pirate hunter, you can go out of period, and purchase their French Corvette or American Cutter, which would make a nice brig too:

http://www.oldglory25s.com/index.php?cat_id=715&catname='Gunboats and Galleys'

They also have a sloop, brigantine, and other vessels as well:

Pricing includes cannons, so is less than it seems at first, once you factor that in.

If you sign up for their Old Glory Army, you get 40% off your purchases, so I recommend that when moving forward on miniatures and ships - they have pirates, government troops, natives, vessels, etc. and all at very nice prices.

Scale Creep also has a couple of nice sloops too.

@Mako
I've been perusing all of those sites and I'm thinking about GOW Sloop.
Do you know if OG Army discount applies to those in Canada?

IIRC, they are a little more expensive that others especially when you are "checking out" but they get readjusted when the order is actually packaged.
