Rocketeer Rocketpack Exhaust Plumes
« on: 09 March 2011, 02:06:13 AM »
Here's a shot of my 3 prototypes of exhaust plumes;

One on the right is hot glue only, no paint. Second from the right with the khaki pants is central hot glue with some grey paint smeared on and let dry, then coated over with lots more hot glue. Finally on the 2 figures on the left are hot glue formed then painted with white/grey/black. Actual rocketters are in various stages of painting, I'm really, at this point, only considering which type of plume to use.

Post comments about which you prefer and why if any reader is so inclined, thanks.

I think the two figs on the left (which seem to have the same technique) look best.

Smoke (like flame) is always really difficult to paint, because it's so dynamic. I wonder if drybrushing with white over the top might make it look a bit more 'feathery' round the surfaces (which of course are where the smoke is dissipating).

As I said on the other thread, this is a really fabulous project, I am in awe of your toys mate!

Too bad you can't find a way to blend in some cotton wool or similar substance to give you some wispiness.  :?
