Alvim Correa Martian Tripod

Inspired by the work of Alvim Correa from the French edition of War of the Worlds I have long wanted to construct a tripod based on his drawings.

Here is what I have achieved so far:

The three head pieces cast and assembled.
I used a teacup to make the main body and a pot lid for the hat.
Cast in plaster and then made a rubber mold to cast the final pieces in resin.
The figure shown for scale is an Ironclad Martian.


The legs, brass rod, bent and inserted into the body.


The prehensile arms, more rod and floral tape, one holding the heat ray I made from some bits.


The legs positioned and fittings made from flex hose and some o-rings.
The skinks he's menacing were quite impressed.



Then he turned to me as if to say: Fthagn!?


Finally primed and ready to paint. Some Copplestone 28mm Brits and an Ironclad tank showed up for the photo.

I hope to get it painted later this week.

But I must ask about the framed picture in the background.  In the 2nd picture, the tripod blocks most of the picture, but still shows a skeletal head.

Then the 3rd picture shows what looks to be someone in a dress uniform.

Please explain.

The red is the primer coat. I'll most likely do a sepia/bronze color scheme.

The picture is an art piece by my wife. As part of a Dios de los Muertos exhibit she did a old photos and cabinet cards that she Morte-fied. This one was my favorite of a skull faced gentleman in evening attire.

I love it! I've always preferred this take on the tripod, and I believe that Wells himself picked out the drawings as closest to what he imagined. I've thought about trying to make one as well, but very much doubt I could pull it off anywhere near as cool as this...

Are the arms flexible?
I would love to see an arm holding some poor unfortunate.

Brilliant stuff, it really looks the part.

I like your version better than any I've yet seen.  Very clever idea, perfectly executed.  Especially hte use of the Parcheesi style pawn.
