That yellow VW

You know the one.  The VW bug that the guy down the street will not let die.  I had to have one as part of my zombie game.
Here is the car in new condition.   I could not stand the flowers.

I rusted it up using a model armor rusting technique. Undercoat in a rust color.  Use water to attach salt to the dry paint job.  Once dry paint the final color.  When that is set sand off the salt.  
Then I used the Rustall system.  Here are the final images.

Kinsmart.  I actually never looked until you asked.  I got it at the local hardware store for $5.00 US.

fantastic paint, but the  car looks a tad big, still.....
What was the turn around from satr to finish for this painting method? Looks like it'd be great for a host of post apoc scenery.

24 hours.  I took it apart, stripped the paint, clane up the stripper, primed it and salted the surface in an afternoon.  The next day I painted the surface color, sanded it, and added the Rustall system the second day.
In between working on the surface, I worked on the interior and tires.

Yeah really like the weathering/rusting on that one snitchy, really suits a sun bleached and wind and sand baked look, dry rust rather than european rot, the sort of bug that with a quart of gas a little oil top up and a fresh battery would start straight off, (reminds me of the VW in Woody Allen's film sleeper, classic).
