Back of Beyond Improvised Armoured Truck WIP
« on: April 30, 2011, 12:21:56 PM »
I've been converting diecast Mack AC Bulldog trucks into a convoy for my Back of Beyond wildcat oil prospectors (using the Dinosaur Hunters list).

Here's the first of two improvised armoured cars.

The unarmoured versions are finished and I'm now working on the second armoured one now.

Cheers

Jim

That looks really good, simple yet very effective. Have you got any photos of the rest of your force?

Bloody hell! Where did you get Mack ACs in a suitable scale, if I may ask? I've been looking for some of those for years.

Your conversion looks great, BTW. Love the rivets.

Cheers  :)

The trucks are Models of Yesteryear (YO30) diecasts.

I don't think they're in scale but they're pretty close based on the photos I've seen of the real thing.

A few more photos, this time of the unarmoured lorries:

I've nearly finished the last armoured truck, so will post some photos later on.

The armored truck looks great, and I especially like the sand channels on the unarmored version.

Just the ticket for the serious motorist. Please say you'll put more photos up once painted.

Very very nice work
They were all drawn to the Keep; the soldiers who brought death; the father and daughter fighting for life; the people who have always feared it; and the one man who knows its secret....

I started painting the two improvised armoured trucks last night, having been sidelined with the figures for the last couple of weeks.

I was going for a rusty boiler plate look but I think I need to add something to make them less monotone. I think I'll repaint the roof panels, leaving the transverse strips rusty so that they look like braces for the armour plate. A few decals to maybe?

Anyway, here they are so far, complete with a giant finger print...I need to repaint that bit I think  lol

The metalwork looks brilliant, and I want to know how you did it! Tells me, tells me now!!!

As to breaking up the monotone I think I'd just go with some decals. If you paint one bit it'll always ask the question "so why wasn't the whole truck painted?"

Those look great.  To add some color, you might paint (and then weather) the original truck parts peeking out, such as the fenders, running boards, and wheels.
